Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan:- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha Friday promised parking areas for the Hua Hin market and downtown area so that tourists can stop by and shop in the popular seaside resort town.

Prayut made the promise during a Cabinet retreat at the Army Rehabilitation and Recreation Center Suanson Pradipat in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Deputy Government Spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prayut had received a complaint from vendors in Hua Hin downtown that tourists could not park their cars in the area, causing their income to sharply drop.

In the past, tourists could park their cars on roadsides to shop but now they face fines by traffic police for doing so, the complaint stated.

Sansern said Prayut raised the complaint during the Cabinet meeting Friday and the prime minister ordered the Prachuap Khiri Khan governor to coordinate with the Hua Hin municipality to find car parks that would not affect the traffic rules.

Prayut received the complaints from local vendors when he inspected the Chatchai Market and the main Hua Hin Beach before attending the Cabinet meeting.

Another complaint he received was from local fishermen who complained about the rule that requires their small fishing boats of 30-ton capacity to be installed with a GPS device if the boats have a roof chamber.

The fishermen claimed that most of their small fishing boats have roof chambers so that they could stay away from the blazing sun while fishing in the sea.

Prayut promised to look into the complaint by seeking opinions from other agencies concerned.

I am adding this item to the already huge list of promises he has made while wondering where he finds the time to look into items this small, even on a local level, while he has a complete country to govern.

Creating more parking for tourists is an easy one to fix..just stop all the car/motorcycle hire people from using all available spaces to park/display their rental fleet.

Were is the governor and the mayor, to busy I guess.

Just park in the road and block a lane like they do everywhere else. Problem solved.

What the HELL !!!! is that part about the roof, GPS, and fish ?

Doesn't he have someone to take care of this trivial stuff for him?

When you grant yourself absolute power, no, you cannot trust anyone else. Regardless of how trivial it may appear.

Any word on his Thai soap-opera scripts?

He must imagine he's a genius if he thinks he can magically make more parking in Hua Hin........without knocking half the place down.....

Although.....having designated motorcycle parking would help.....nothing more maddening than coming across a parking spot only to find a motorbike parked in the middle where 2 cars could fit........!!

Chatchai market hasn't catered for tourists since Market Village opened - which would be the real reason that sales in the rest of the downtown area have fallen (apart from the present downturn in tourist numbers generally). Chatchai has also become quite expensive even for the fresh produce the Thai buy. As others have said - there isn't anywhere to add parking in Huahin except for blocking off traffic lanes, knocking down half the town, constructing a new multi-storey carpark over the top of the shopping district or constructing a new "shopping heart" for the town - eg Market Village and BluPort.

There are several options. If you drive along Naresdamri until it intersects with Phetchakasem (past the Centara) there are several vacant lots that could be temporarily used for parking. Also, on the other side of Phetchakasem towards the 50's are available areas.

More specifically, as has been pointed out, the removal of the illegal motorbike and car rental operations who monopolize public parking would open a large number of spaces right in the core of town. It is incredible that right next to the central cop house are so many illegal business operations. The mayor and governor apparently are blind.

PM of the country is wasting his time deciding on parking spots? Unbelievable!

It is along the same type of comments made weeks back when it was mentioned for the need for public restrooms to be kept clean and stocked with toilet paper.

Any high-level official talking about such minutia is something to ponder.

The Book of Junta.

1.3: And then Prayuth said, "Let there be parking", and there was parking.

“and the people saw the parking spaces and that they were good; and gave Him a 95% approval rating “

Here endeth the lesson.

You all missed the part that detailed that it was a mobile cabinet meeting, one of the reasons for such is to hear opinions from people on the street ( or boat).

Also IF and WHEN he talks about "about such minutia" I imagine it's to ensure that those people whose job it is to ensure such do so!
