Chiang Mai Airport offers souvenirs and shows to passengers during Sonkran

CHIANG MAI, 10 April 2015 (NNT) - Chiang Mai International Airport is holding welcoming activities for passengers arriving in Chiang Mai during the Songkran Festival.

Director of the Chiang Mai International Airport Visut Chantana today led staff and representatives of airlines, provincial authorities and tour operators, to give souvenirs to passengers coming with TG 102, PG 215, WE154, and FD 3445 operated by Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, Thai Smile Airways and Thai AirAsia respectively.

The passengers were entertained to folk music and cultural performances on their arrival. Buddha images have also been installed in both domestic and international terminals, allowing passengers to perform bathing rites in gesture of bringing good luck and prosperity.

According to the Director of the Chiang Mai International Airport, there are averagely 172 flights daily operating through the airport, a 22% increase from the last Songkran holidays. During April 9-19, no domestic flights are added but thirteen international flights will be added on Hong Kong - Xian - Tai Yuan route.

Security measures in the airport have been tightened. The airport’high-ranking officers are always on standby to oversee all services and ensure emergency cases will be solved timely and properly with instant executive decision.

Airline operators, Custom House and Immigration Center are now strictly checking all passengers and their luggage to prevent narcotics smuggling.

That's about 7 flights an hour....really? NOT

On the bright side, it still is a great place to arrive and be off the plane (carry on bags) and into the car park in 5 minutes. Sadly someone will mess this up soon.

That might include the air force, rain making, private jets, helicopters as well as all the regular Air Asia, Thai etc. Who knows?
