French Travelers Rank Thailand Fourth on Dream Destinations List

In a recent survey by the Paris-based research company Ipsos, French travelers ranked Thailand number 4 on their top 5 dream destinations in 2015.

The company surveyed 44,000 people both in tourism-related operations and the general public. The United States topped the list of dream destinations, while Australia ranked number two. Canada and New Zealand were tied for third place. French travelers ranked Thailand number four on their dream destination list, and Mexico number five.

According to the survey, 32% of French travelers will increase their budget this year. Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa of the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) stated that the survey was great news for the country and reinforces Thailand as a popular tourist destination for international travelers.

It’s no surprise that French travelers love Thailand. In fact, France is the country’s 4^th largest source of tourists from Europe. More than 632,000 French visitors traveled to Thailand in 2014, up 3.4% from the previous year.

On average, French tourists spend 17 days in the country before returning home, and they spend an estimated 3,699.87 Baht each day during their stay. In the first six months of 2014 alone, French tourists contributed 20 billion Baht in revenue to the economy.

If you look hard enough you can find rankings that will put just about any place in top 5 for something.

Thailand was probably far from 5th. The report simply pulled out the stat that the French voted Th 4th. It doesn't care to mention where other countries ranked Th.

I have so far not heard any figures on how many foreigners are living in

Thailand. Possibly those figures (if existant)inconvenience Juthacorn.

French polynesia is far and expensive

the rest of the list is : Mexico, Japon, Brazil, Indonesia, Greece and Italy

it's only their dream, because, at the end, most of them stay in France ; the title says " Thailand fourth" , but it's fifth

As for the number of French who live in Thailand, French embassy says there are 10520 registered people on 31/12/2014, and probably 15 to 20000 unregistered

as for tourists, 256948 French went to Thailand in 2013

One of my greatest joys in Bangkok is hearing the French forced to use English to communicate. They NEVER speak to me in English when I am in France. I have a Thai acquaintance to translates at the French Embassy and he is the only Thai I know who speaks French. If the French government weren't so strict on everything having a French name, the language would have died out by now. I wonder why there don't seem to be any admittedly French members on this forum if they are all that interested in Thailand. Maybe there is a French Forum I don't know about.

Do you actually have an intelligent response to the post, perhaps a different view? Or just content to bash an American for his opinion based on his experiences?

Having worked in France I would agree with Rametindallas. I know French people who have very good English language skills but will never use English in France. Many French still believe French is "an international language" - it is not. After English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are much more important than French (which I speak btw).

French and English are the official UN languages - simply because of the old historic importance of French as the old language of diplomacy, notice emphasis on old, and the fact France was one of the major Allies in WW2. De Gaulle did a very good job of promoting and protecting French interests. But, that's all history, and French is no longer one of the world's important languages.

In Nato operations in the Balkans, French troops were isolated as they were the only troops unable to communicate in English, which was used as the common language of all other nationalities.

When I was a schoolboy in UK, French was a compulsory subject to O level in grammar schools. My eldest daughter speaks English, Malay, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Welsh. French was not even on her curriculum.

It's not a case of French bashing. Just stating as it is. Many French people, IME, speak French and expect French to be widely spoken and understood - much more than is the actual case.

IME, French, even in its old colonies is dying out and losing influence.

You just can't stand Thailand being written about in a positive manner, can you? Gotta find something wrong, right? However, this survey isn't "for something" ... it ranks the French traveler's dream destinations and Thailand ranks 4th (or 5th, depending upon how you read it). So get over it. I'm sure there will be something soon that'll enable you to speak of Thailand in a negative way.

Obviously you have no idea what it is like to be an American tourist in France or anywhere else for that matter. The behavior of the US foreign policy has embittered many against Americans.
