BANGKOK: -- ANTI-GRAFT authorities are now investigating Kirimaya Resort, a five-star hotel in Nakhon Ratchasima's Pak Chong district, over suspicions of land encroachment. This investigation is part of the authorities' crusade against encroachment into forest reserves.

"There are no double standards," Colonel Dusadee Arawuit, the Justice Ministry's deputy permanent secretary, said yesterday.

He added that he had asked the Centre for National Anti-Corruption (CNAC) to look into Kirimaya Resort's land next to Khao Yai National Park too after it began looking into the nearby Bonanza International Speedway.

Prayong Preeyachitt, secretary-general of the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), said: "We will be looking into all complaints and reports of land encroachment." His office comes under the jurisdiction of the CNAC.

A source in the investigation team claimed that there were irregularities about some plots occupied by the resort. The source alleged that aerial pictures showed that the area occupied by the resort under a Nor Sor 3 Kor land-rights document had a public waterway. But now this plot does not have a waterway.

According to the source, the resort allegedly turned its land-rights document into a full title deed this year after an official, who strongly opposed the issuance of this deed, was suspiciously transferred away.

Meanwhile, Nakhon Ratchasima's deputy police chief, Colonel Boonlert Wongwajjana, said investigators would summon 15 people who were involved in the sale, purchase and resale of plots held by the Bonanza International Speedway.

"We have to find out how they got their land-rights documents," he said.

An investigation suggests that the speedway might have encroached on more than 100 rai (16 hectares) of forest reserve and agricultural-reform land in Pak Chong district.
