Prawit says the military knows who are behind Samui car bombing



BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said today that security authorities now know who are behind the car bomb attack at Central Festival Samui shopping plaza.

Speaking at the press conference to report the six-month performance of the government, Gen Prawit who is in charge of security affairs said investigation has advanced with progress and discovered that the bombing linked from the North to the South.

He didn’t elaborate but assured that all individuals involved in this bombing plot have been known, adding security personnel were closing in on them.

Earlier this morning Royal Thai Police Command deputy commissioner Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda reiterated that investigation in the Samui car bombing has been 80% completed as more than 20 witnesses have been questioned.

He stressed that political motive is the strongest probability, saying bombers themselves could never come out with such complicated plot.

He said all present and resigned security guards of Central Festival Samui were freed after questioning but they were required to report the police upon call.

He said the bombing was a blatant challenge to the state.

He also said the police have information that old time politicians were involved, adding if evidence implicated the, they would be surely arrested.

He insisted that earlier speculation that southern insurgency was a strong motive has been ruled out, saying they were merely hired to plant the bomb.
