McDonald's faces 'cockroach burger' claim in New Zealand

WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON:-- Fast food giant McDonald's said Monday it was aware of a New Zealand woman's allegation she found a half-eaten cockroach in a hamburger bought at one of its South Island restaurants.

Annah Sophia Stevenson told Fairfax New Zealand that she bought a Big Mac meal on Saturday night then found the cockroach when she was back at home and part-way through eating the burger .

"The guts were hanging out and it had a big hole in the middle of it," the 26-year-old make-up artist said.

"I was trying to squeeze my teeth through it. I was chewing on that thing for a while. I thought it was a bit of gristly meat."

Stevenson did not complain to the restaurant, instead posting pictures on Facebook and saying she felt "violated, ill, traumatised and disgusted".

McDonald’s said that its franchisee in the town of Blenheim contacted Stevenson as soon as it became aware of the allegations on social media.

It said the franchise collected "the burger and foreign object" so they could be sent for independent testing.

However, McDonald’s said Stevenson requested the burger’s return on Monday, which "severely limits our ability to further investigate the matter".

It said council health inspectors visited the restaurant on Monday and found no evidence of pests.

"It’s important to note that the products were ordered via drive-thru, transported by car and then consumed at the customer’s home," McDonald’s said in a statement to AFP.

It's just protein, my dear, you should come to Issan and see what they eatsick.gif

She's halfway there already eating junk food, eating a ' half eaten' cockroach presumably means someone couldn't finish it off before her. She 's a make-up artist, perhaps of various mediums, whatever, does cockroach eating improve the complexion?

McRoach-with-Cheese-46452.jpg

Well, for shure the roach in that pic looks pretty mouth-watering compared to them pale sickish French fries ...

I have no idea what the legal system is like in New Zealand, but if this incident happened in the USA, McDonalds would soon be contacted by the law firm of Ketchum & Cheatum and presented with a list of physical and psychological hurts suffered by this lady, and a request for monetary renumeration.

"Guts hanging out" of a cockroach?

I don't buy these stories at all - there's no proof. Plus - really - how is a roach gonna get into the middle of a burger?

She ordered the McRoach its how its made.

She thought it was a bit of grisly beef !!Bulls..t !!

This lady was just looking at $ signs, and her fifteen minutes of fame.

She did not contact the restaurant, she did not contact the health department. Only social media.

That fact alone tells you it is a con.

Me thinks the cockroach would be the most healthy part of a Big Mac.

Hey at least the cockroach is healthier than that burger she is eating.

If this had happened at a Thai branch, we'd be up to five pages of condemnation by now.

If this happened at a Thai branch, they'd try to charge extra for the cockroach.

under new zealand law all she will get is a sorry and a free replacement burger no money to be made in this country but the health department will check it out and if she's not telling the truth she will be charged and maybe jailed

I thought it was a bit of gristly meat."

More like "Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside" . Could have been an Armadillo.

However, McDonalds said Stevenson requested the burgers return on Monday

Burger's return, That sounds like a film (Return of the Jedi) or a Rap (RnB) Song (Return of the Mac)

cheesy.gif They should have just made the topic, "Post Your McDonald's/Fast Food Hang Ups" here ...

Those with the fetish agenda hardly need cockroach stories for an excuse.

even people in Isan don't really eat cockroaches...

She should have reported it to the council straightaway.

When did the council health inspectors find out?..Saturday, Sunday or Monday?. Can they do inspections on Saturday or Sunday at the Burger cockroach joint.

Perhaps she should of ordered extra flies to go with it.. Oh and a large Cock. Or is that only LoS McDonalds.

This is a money making exercise. She lives, poor little creature dies

Claims of this sort are common when big money is involved. Their may an expectation of an out-of-court settlement on the part of this woman. Large corporations are very well equipped to deal with claims, be they honest or fraudulent.

that cockroach was the only part of real meat in the hamburger anyway

mcroach, 4$99

mucka's buugers are beyond reproach bah.gif

New Zealand's Mac Donald's ar the best in the world, they serve a Lamb burger, while the Australian Mc Donald's serves a Big Mac with beetroot.

That ain't no cockroach, it's a Mc Donald's toy for the visually impaired.
