WASHINGTON: -- Sawyer Sweeten, known for his role as one of twin sons in the US sitcom "Everybody loves Raymond," committed suicide on Thursday aged 19, US media reported.

"This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred," Sweeten’s sister Madylin said in a statement, according to the showbiz publication Variety.

"We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday."

Sweeten was reported to have shot himself while visiting family in Texas.

He played a character named Geoffrey Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond," a series which ran from 1996-2005 on the CBS network.

In it, he acted alongside his real-life twin brother, Sullivan, and sister Madylin for 139 episodes.

The two brothers were 16 months old when they first started on the show, Variety said.

"At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love," Madylin added.

That's rather shocking.

He only had a "career" when he was very young so that ended early.

Child "stars" usually can't become adult stars or even adult working actors, even if they try, and many try.

Never saw the sitcom so clueless to who he was but thoughts are with the one's left behind, sad to say 20 yr old felt so depressed.

Never have I, either, and he may Rest in Peace.

Just one question......has he been to Pattaya before?

That would explain.....................

Who knows what the clues were, it doesn't seem to be in the press.

So all we can do is speculate.

I do know that the formerly famous, even very small fames as in this case, when they grow up to be nondescript or even train wreck failures, there is a business and interest in following their lives because the public enjoys that kind of thing.

So there would be that pressure on such a person if they didn't see their life going in the right direction, to know some sleazy press types would be following them for the rest of their lives, doing "Where are they now?" features.

Anyone with Truevisions can see ELR twice nightly on beTV and RTL/CBS. It's probably the classic traditional family sitcom. Superbly written and acted.

Very sad to hear of this young actor's death.

Well there is a definitely sometimes a dark side to show business parents but don't know anything about this case. Lots of unknown 19 year olds get depressed and commit suicide too. Adolescence is hard.

Except for; Mickey Rooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Joaquin Pheonix, Neil Patrick Harris, Danny Dyer, Dean Stockwell, Kiera Knightley, Jessica Alba, Jason Donovan, Milla Jovovich, Scarlet Johansson, Paul Walker, Kurt Russell, Daniel Ratcliffe and the other main actors from Harry Potter, Drew Barrymore, Dakota Fanning, (deep breath).... Shirley Temple, Emma Roberts, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (from the awesome 3rd Rock series!), Shia LeBouef, Ryan Gosling, Corey Feldman and countless others obviously....

Rest in peace, dear Sawyer Seeten, hopefully you are in a better place right now and I wish for you that you have found the peace and paradise you were looking/hoping for.

Sincerest condolences to family and friends. What a tragic loss... Wishing you strength to make it through these difficult times.

I understand what you are trying to say, but I believe it is a bit too harsh. Just imagine you would be his dad and now read something like your post...

In the episodes I remember, the twins were little more than stage props. Not surprising given their ages at the time. Their older sister did some acting and delivered some lines occasionally.

According to IMDB he never worked in movies or TV after 2005. Hard to say whether the short-lived fame was a contributing factor, but sad to think of anyone that young so overwhelmed by life.

Yes, usually tends to mean more often than not. In which case you need to list 23 child stars that did not make it as adult stars in order to get even close to rebutting Alwyn's statement. smile.png

Not going to dignify your total inanity on this particular topic.

Young dude -- RIP.

Hey, you forgot Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees!

He starred as Circus Boy as a child.
