A culture of callousness

Sadly what needs to happen is a HIGH SO or Political Child to be injured... then somebody will actually do something..

You are wrong. If the child of some VIP were killed in a road accident that would have been prevented in a more civilized country then what what somebody would do about it is make the police go out and arrest a whole bunch of drunks - or people riding bicycles who might have alcohol on their system to the level that would register on a breathalizer, or people who change lanes too much - because they don't have a clue about the other drivers around them - or just arrest a bunch of Burmese - file reports, show statistics to prove they are "doing something" about the problem - please the people at the top. But no one in Thailand is ever going to fix any problem.

During the Thaksin regime, they made a show of "doing something" about the drug problem: they authorities arrested a bunch of powerless country folk, tortured them to get confessions out of them and prosecuted them. They could show numbers to prove they were doing something about the problem - but has the problem of drugs been solved?

You are in Asia now, my friend.

Interesting point of view...but that guy is not here...anymore.. and that is a whole different ball of dung.. drug abuse and a square head with a massive ego..surrounded by the like..

. As posted...many of those riders represent a section of an affluent and educated segment of Thai society... Oddly, would they would organize a fund raiser... throw a gala ball, and send the money to the victims or to areas.., of concern?

This is a new Asia, an emerging educated one that is held in check..

You don't have be in Asia to experience what you have described... that happens in the USA... look at the open season on Black Men..

However, things remain the same.. the bikers down here continue in groups, motorcycles, trucks, rule the road..

"Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed the police to crack down more on drunk drivers....."

It's a good thing Prayuth carries a big stick or the cops would all be in a state of lethargy at their desks every day.. Why do they need to be told what is painfully obvious to the rest of the population?

Because they do not join the police force to serve the community but to enrich them selves , by any means.
