Border trade falls under projection

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's border trade with its neighbours has fallen to 695 billion baht in the first six months of fiscal year 2015, a 3 percent below the target, according to Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya.

Gen Chatchai conceded that the value of border trade in Thailand between October 2014 and March 2015 fell short of the 750 billion baht target due to delay in the implementation of border trade stimulus policy in the early part of fiscal year 2015.

However, he remained confident that Thailand could still achieve its annual border trade target of 1.5 trillion baht this year.

To realise the target, Gen Chatchai said the commerce ministry will accelerate implementing the ‘sister cities’ program and export stimulus measures.

The ministry will speed up a creation of sister cities between Thailand’s Mukdahan province and Savannakhet province of Laos, he said, noting that Thailand’s Nong Khai and Udon Thani provinces should also be added to the scheme.

Maybe the shortfall might encourage them to knock another 25 basis points off next time they do a review. As well as benefitting exports, many expats and tourists would welcome that.

The Prayut government was so focused on NOT implementing its domestic stimulus policy that it equally overlooked its border trade stimulus policy.

At least the government's economic policies are consistent if not failed.

Too late for this year. Back to the barracks.

Solution to their export problem.......just legalize marijuana growing....farmers incomes will rise considerable and like the state of Colorado the tax revenue will exceed all expectations..........eliminating their budget deficit.
