KOH CHANG: -- A female British tourist was found dead in the swimming pool of a hotel on Koh Chang in Trat province Sunday morning.

Quoting hotel staff, an enquiry officer of Koh Chang police station said the victim who was not identified checked into the hotel on Saturday with his boyfriend, also a Briton.

During their stay in the hotel, the officer said that the couple engaged in a fierce argument on Saturday before both entered their room. At about 6 am on Sunday, hotel staff found the body of the female Briton in the swimming pool.

Police examined the body of the victim and did not find any wounds which might suggest that she was assaulted. Police also questioned the victim’s boyfriend who said that they both drank a lot Saturday night before they engaged in fierce arguments.

He added that at about 3 am his girlfriend left the room and he thought she might go to the pool. He admitted that he was shocked and saddened to find out that she was dead.

British woman found drowned in hotel’s swimming pool

Trat:- A British tourist was found drowned in the swimming pool of a well-known hotel on Koh Chang Sunday morning in what is believed to be a suicide following a quarrel with her husband, police said.

The tourist was identified as Ann Turner Rachel who checked into the hotel with her husband, Peter Stefan Brown, Saturday evening.

Her body was found at about 6 am. Half an hour later, the hotel staffs called Pol Lt Uan-ungkoon Kaewmueangklang, an officer on duty of Koh Chang police station, to inform him of the incident.

The police officer rushed to the hotel with rescuers of the Boon Chuay Lua Rescue Association of Trat.

They found the body facing down at the bottom of the pool at the depth of two meters. She was wearing underwear without a shirt. The husband was crying beside the pool, when police arrived.

A forensic doctor estimated she died about six hours earlier and died of drowning because there was water in her lungs.

Hotel staffs told police that the British couple were staying at the room No 135.

At 9 pm Saturday, the staffs saw the couple quarreling loudly at the room’s balcony before they entered the room and everything became quiet. A hotel staff later found the body at 6 am on the following morning.

Brown told police that he quarreled with his wife between 9 pm to 10 pm and he then went into sleep. He was woken up by the hotel staffs after the body was found.

Police checked the room and found several empty beer bottles.

couldn't have found the body at 6 a.m because as the article says they argued between 9 a.m and 10 a.m when the husband went to bed.

Swimming whilst drunk - not a good idea.

the safety of Thai pools leaves a lot ot be desired...I've seen several on KC that could be potential death traps.

Why is one of the Thai guys wearing goggles and a snorkel? If the body was discovered face down in the pool did he either (a) happen to be already wearing them (at 6am) or ( b ) rush to put the on before jumping the pool to save someone or ( c ) ask the camera person to wait a minute while he put them on then stage himself next to a dead body. Tell me please that the answer was (a) not ( c )

You jumped from being a girlfriend to really loving her. That in itself is mere speculation, then you add, " . . . unless he . . . "

Don't worry, I am sure all the TV sleuths will fill in the blanks.

Gee, do you think he may have searched the bottom of the pool?

Maybe the responder wanted to

(d) do a good visual assessment before touching the evidence/body?

I'm no CSI, but I watch TV.

there is a hotel at the end of soi 4 (nameless), the pool goes from about 4 foot deep to 10 foot deep, its like a water slide, when i was in Turkey some year ago, the hotel pool did not have any markings, and the "shallow end" was nearly 2 metres, the number of non swimmers that slid into the water and found it came above their heads, the only reason no-one drowned was, there was always someone there to drag them out, it was frightening.

Checked into the hotel with "His" boyfriend?

give it a rest, its a typo as you well know, written by someone for whom english is not a native language.

i'm sure someone with your vast experience can find something better in the story to pick apart.

Post #3, second to last paragraph is where I find the quote that says "pm." Besides the original article said, "He added that at about 3 am his girlfriend left the room and he thought she might go to the pool."

Put your glasses on Mate! It says 9 p.m. to 10 p.m!

Whereas at 12 p.m. she went swimming alone while he slept.

Since her body was discovered at 6 a.m. and they said she was dead for about 6 hours, then she must have drowned right away.
