Firstly is it available most areas? We're about 50ks out of the main city ie no cable

Mainly interested in documentaries, maybe some English speaking series, comedies, movies etc. Don't care about sport. I did here someone say for a farang the highest platinum package only way to go but don't want to commit to over 2000 thb a month. Anyone have any of the lesser packages?

The only channels even remotely worth watching are platinum package with the addition of the "al a carte" packages which are add ons to the platinum package all in think I am paying THB 2500/m

I have the gold package @ 1568 baht per month and quite happy with that as I don't watch sport, I enjoy History History 2, National Geographic, Lifestyle couple of explore channels, four movie channels, had this for nine years and see no reason to change. Like everything it's horses for courses and may not suit everyone but I am happy I don't do bars etc but socialise with friends with TV complimenting my lifestyle, not ruling it.

I got the basic package just for the wifi, not interested in sports & happy enough to get News and the odd movie. 899 baht per month, off the landline.

Not sure about coverage!

Sattelite comes from space, so you dont need a cable just a receiving dish and can therefore be anywhere.

This is the wrong forum.

MOVED to TV forum.

Decent selection of documentaries such as History Channel, Discovery, National Geographic and others like those.

There are some serials and movies, but I don't often find any worth watching. Matter of taste. Some people must like them

Reception is always good unless you're in the midst of a major downpour.

The Truevisions signal is broadcast from Thaicom-5 Satellite, so as long as you can legally mount a small 75cm Ku-band dish that has a clear view of the southwest sky (no trees, building or other obstacles blocking true azimuth:238.3°, elevation angle: 60.3°) then all should be well.

So, all that is required is a Sat Dish with an LNB, a single coax cable run to a Truevisions branded Sat Box Receiver connected to a TV (oh, and a pesky Truevisions billing account). All can be acquired through Truevisions.

We have the Platinum package and are happy with it. There are usually several U.S. television series that appeal to us, including a number that they advertise as available for us to see within 24 or 48 hours of US broadcast.

I also like US sports, especially college and pro football and it is nice to watch a live game.

During the day we often listen to their music channels and especially enjoy the blues channel and the classic rock channel.

Yes i have the gold package which i think is more than adequate. The Platinum is quite a bit more cash for not many more channels IMO. People complain it's expensive but i pay 1650 a month with HD and the PVR (which is well worth getting). That's just over 1GBP a day, pretty cheap i think. Great for sport, movies, documentaries. What's lacking though is a decent news channel. The BBC channel is terrible and only reports on Africa. CNN is OK, at least it's in HD.

We have the Gold Package, which fits our requirements well.

Gold is 30% cheaper than Platinum.

Once a year, True has a promotion that upgrades Gold to Platinum for the birthday month of the subscriber (after registration). Having had this occasional taste of Platinum, to me Platinum only has 1 additional channel that I would have liked to have all year round (BBC Lifestyle) - but not for 500 Baht/m more.

What's PVR mate? Thanks for the help

PVR = Personal Video Recorder. In the context of Truevisions, what it means is that you can attach an external hard drive to their set-top-box, and record future programs from the machines built-in TV guide.

It's the old school way of doing time shifting, except you store the data yourself, and you have to have the wits to have set it up to record in the first place :)

Oh haha. Back home all the boxes are recordable with a built in HD

You mean like a hard drive video recorder or just an external hard drive?

At below TrueVisions webpage you can compare the channels lineup of each package. Just click the package icon at the top of the page to review a package's channels lineup. Be sure to take note of channels marked with an asterisk(s) which mean the channel may be on TrueVisions cable only vs TrueVisions satellite, may be only broadcast on TrueVisions as Standard Definition, etc.

It's an external USD HD that attaches to the PVR... Same as in the west, except the HD is not internal to the PVR... You have to buy the HD from True and it's about 3100 baht...

I have the Platinum package and it serves my needs...

Yes we have gold, but really only watch history,Nat geo,and a few of the lesser channels,I agree the BBC news is Crap, the problem is so many repeats over and over and over, then a year later they show it all again, most of the movies and series are on the place where they kick your ass,

Ordered gold yesterday. I'm mainly interested in docos, history etc. What a marathon trying to organize it with them. Think I had a student phone person had to keep going back and checking with a third person for basic info on pricing etc. No idea how long it will take them to come out and connect. Neither did they

Well got the gold today and so far very happy. I wish the guide wud show only the channels u can watch.

The guy installed it gave us no information on how we pay each month? I paid installation fee but no subscription fee. Do they send u an sms of something? Can u pay online?

We have the gold package as well and I refuse to spend a single satang more, it's already quite expensive.

I watch the docos mostly and my son watch the kids channels which thankfully are mainly in English.

As for series and movies, I mostly download them, ahhmm,

Not sure.

We pay a year in advance which gives you 1 month for free.

They normally send the bill with the mail (snail mail).

If you watch English football - OK

If you watch US sport - OK

Aussies - I suggest that you forget it.

Samsung offer a regular list of movies with Thai subtitles.
