Speaking languages does not equate to intelligence, knowledge and wisdom per se. The ability to speak a particular language is not the measure of IQ.

However, English is the premier language for education, science, business, politics etc in the world. The level of competence in English is an indicator, and no more than an indicator, in a person's level of education.

Nothing arrogant but more a comment on your personal drive and acceptance for poor standards.

oh really? so why English is the third most widely spoken language in the World, after Chinese and Spanish?

disgusting Anglo-saxon superiority complex as it is. who is the fascist among us, huh?

I am not a fascist nor an imperialist, but you are wrong. English is the most widely spoken language in the world.

http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/countries_by_languages.htm

your list is by number of countries, and not by number of people. in this list English is number one because of many British ex-colonies where people were FORCED to speak English by misters in pith helmets with sick ideas about Anglo-Saxon superiority.

lie and manipulation

here is by number of people:

I think most people understand that 'widely', in this context, means 'in more places'.

Also, are you suggesting that the Spanish and Chinese never forced their language upon they people the subsumed whilst creating their own empires?

in Greenland (2.166 million km²) 56.000 people speak Danish. In Japan (377,944 km²) 127.3 million people speak Japanese. does it make Danish language more widely spoken?

in your manipulative way of thinking - yes!

Spanish people came to live in Latin America. They never tried to extinct Native Americans, put them in reservations. That's why they still happily coexist and speak Spanish + there own native languages. Spanish were not saints.. but nothing like Nazis from Great Britain...

Chinese populated new areas thousands of years ago, and there is no evidence now that they FORCED anybody to speak Chinese at that time/ That's why there still so many dialects now in China. Thy just had no idea about Anglo-Saxon anti-humane assimilation techniques!

What a vicious circle! The government gets more authoritarian when the people express their unhappiness about being suppressed, and the more they're suppressed, the unhappier and more likely they are to express that, so the government get even more heavy-handed, so then the people...until something erupts.

The next flashpoint will have nothing to do with the reds, it will be students, fighting for a vote

Read the other news....a foreign group steers up problems......Some students will still remember how the reds shot at them.....

Do you mean the unnamed foreign group that the father of one protester claimed brain-washed his son? http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/838667-gen-tawatchai-father-says-son-was-brainwashed-by-a-foreign-organisation/ Is that the best you can do in terms of a foreign scapegoat?

By the way, if you'd read the complete article you would have come across this:

"The 14 detained activists were members of the “New Democracy Group”, an incipient anti-junta group that is not apparently linked to either two mainstream political parties, the Democrats and Peua Thai. Thai Public Broadcasting Service revealed in a program that the activists were involved in the anti-amnesty street demonstrations against coup-ousted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s government. The program also said some have been involved in sporadic anti-coup protests staged in front of Bangkok’s Arts and Culture Center, near the place pro-activists and anti-government notes were posted on the weekend."

Anti-amnesty so presumably anti-Shinawatra, yet anti-coup. That should confuse some of the posters here.

Thinking back to my student days, I was too immature and lacking experience of the world out there to have a political opinion. Thus my thoughts on this is that students should concentrate on studies and enjoy their time as a student rather than get mixed up in the dark world of Thai politics?

individuals who protests at colleges around the world are made up of a multitude of backgrounds and occupations. many are students yes, but then you have the aggretators who are professionals hires to spread discontent against those in charge. then you have the wannabe stydents who are not for many reasons, money lack of schooling intelligence, lazy dope burn out, etc then the typical reactioon when a crowd starts to gather, everyone in sight runs to see what is happening, hoping for a handout of some sort and finnaly t6hose looking for some easy picking in the way of other belongings, attend classes with personal appearance in each assigned class and cpme back after graduation or head for the nearest site looking for labor.

So what are you accusing these particular students and those who sympathise with them of?

... Thought not. Just sling mud and if none sticks, move on...
