I am going to keep it in my safe. Been here too long to do otherwise. You do what you like - I was answering a question, not wanting a dim argument with you!!

Leave your $ where it is, it'll be alright in a few days.

It's people rushing and worrying that cause all the problems.

may want to start selling shincorp stocks :D:D

Don't know uf anyone watched Thai TV today, but 4 channels were live at the stock market around lunch time saying some very unusual trading was taking place on many stocks.

I bet some made a fortune on inside info. :o

Latest word from the the Beeb is that Thaksin is desperatly trying to arrange a plane back to LOS. Not suprisingly there are efforts in place to keep him out by the occupying Army/Government. Lets hope they keep him out. God knows what problems will erupt if the Toxin man returns and some of army throws their lot in with him!

Why isn't the forum showing who is on line and how many? Surely, today will set a record for the number of people on line at one time.

2403 , if that sort of thing excites you.

Read rumours that Thaksin-friendly Generals where meeting on some of the bases outside Bangkok to make up their mind on what to do. If they decides to support Thaksin [if he comes back] we might end up with a army vs army-scenario.

Thailand's Stock Exchange Plans Normal Hours, Spokeswoman Says

By Dominic G. Diongson

Sept. 20 (Bloomberg) -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand plans to operate normally today in the wake of a coup, said Ladawan Kantawong, a spokeswoman.

``We will open the market,'' she said in a telephone interview from Bangkok.

Stocks trade on the Thai exchange from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time each weekday. The benchmark SET has fallen 1.6 percent this year, trailing a 4.3 percent gain in Morgan Stanley Capital International's Asia Pacific Index. [...]

Been following this now for almost 5 hours... haven't posted but thatks for all the info. The above is EXACTLY the thing I'm most worried about. Everything looks like it's gone kind of smoothly right now... but I won't be going out tomorrow.

Hope they can keep Toxin out of the country and away from people he may be able to stir up.

Hope people wait and listen to the King when he speaks.

I love this country - and it's many faults, even though I get annoyed and complain frequently.

I hate the thought of this becoming something that will take lives. I truly hope not.

That's very possible, but I can tell you Thaksin won't be coming back at least for a few days. He'll be flying to another destination from NY, and I can't see him trying to get power back, too much risk of violence. HM the King will certainly not want that, and I don't think he will agree to instate Sondthi to power either.

There will not be a curfew.

You will note the statements as issued: From the Crown and disposed via the three ams of the military. The police have been told to be active in this.

Mr Thaksin and cronies have gone too far.

Cronies are flying out as I Write.

5 years and he will be got for his ill gotten loot.

As you sow, so you shall reap.

Where can he hide now?.

Worried chap methinks when his assets get frozen.

Over stepped the mark somewhat.

After the coup, it always followed by the curfew. So I wouldn’t image anybody in the right mind would open their business tomorrow or the next day. My wife said this is probably the third or fourth time since she was born, and each one previously always ended up in a peaceful manner. So most thais will dislike it quite a bit but nothing to worry over too much. If history repeats itself, it should last 1-2 weeks the longest, and it won’t be a grand scale disturbance likes in Rawanda or anything similar to that, she said.

Good luck everyone and please keep yourself save and stay home as much as possible

Expect organized chaos -- while some gov't agencies might find it safer to close schools and banks, others might find it a good idea to [re]assure the rest of the world (investors et.al.) by going business-as-usual, and to show that things aren't that off, in an attempt to restore confidence.

EU calls for 'democratic order' in Thailand, tourists warned

Paris - European governments, airlines and travel companies expressed concern Tuesday at the military coup in Thailand, with the European Union demanding an immediate return to "democratic order."

Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, said Thailand needed to "revert to democratic order without delay."

"It is highly regrettable that democratic institutions seem to have been taken over by military force," he said in a statement.

-- AFP 2006-09-20

And where was the regret when democratic institutions of Thailand were taken over and subverted by monopolistic capitalist forces? Oh pardon me, I forgot that in the name of the "free market" such activities are sanctioned.

That is not how European countries American countries operate. I understand your sarcasm but the truth is they figure it is the Thais responsibility to deal with Taksin when he steals from them. That means within a Democratic framework. (of course I understand that means the democracy must be functioning and many Thais don't think it is) For me as I said earlier I would fight for my government. That does not mean the people running the show. It means the institutions they are supposed to stand for even when I don't like what the people running the show are doing. Communism and socialism simply don't work. The trouble with capitalism is that it can be very bad or very good depending on whether the guys running the show have a concience or not. That is for the Thais to decide. Not me.

Unfortunately, even in this day and age, there are a myriad of countries where he can go and not be bothered or hassled.

I`m leaving Guatemala this week, maybe we could do an exchange, he and I?

His Majesty grants audience to Administrative Reform Council

His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Administrative Reform Council at midnight.

A TV announcer said His Majesty granted the audience to Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Sonthi Boonyaratglin, head of the council, Navy Commander-in-Chief Adm Sathiraphan Keyanon, Air Force Commander-in-Chief ACM Chalit Pukphasuk and Supreme Commander Gen Ruangroj Mahasalanon at midnight Tuesday.

Sounds to me as if Thailand's de-tox is on track! :o

Hopefully Thaskin is let back in so democracy can take its proper course.

I'd think if the King really wanted him to go, all he would have had to do is ask for his resignation publicly.

so Taksin's wife, kids, and cronies just up and left town (a good number of them, at least from what it sounds) right before this all happened?

He may not have much money and needs the cash to get by on. If banks are forced to take an extended holiday and the guy doesn't have credit cards this is a prudent action. It is in the short term however and gauranteed loss of value since the baht WILL drop for a bit now. I was surprised the baht not only weathered but strengthened when Thaksin was ousted the first time. I think this will be too much for the baht short term. It will weaken considerably this time. After all a strong Baht occured due to many of Thaksins freer market policies. Say what you want about him being a theif. You will be right. But he also understood how to bring more dollars, Yuan, Euros and every other currency into his country than any Thai leader before him. He was good for Thailand but it looks like his time has past. The Thais need something between Thaksin and Nationalistic Generals now.

Scared wouldn't be appropriate. Let's just say that I'm kinda worried right now, really!
