AlQaholic
What?? That's just normal everyday average Somchai driving here in Thailand.
Doc46
Is this a start to clean up the roads??If they had to arrest all drivers who do the zig zag move more then a few times and cause near accidents in moving traffic then there would be not many motorcycles and cars on the roads in Thailand. AlQaholic
On thai public TV, yesterday, they said the driver of the red car is a soldier; so he is a 26 y old teenager soldier Oh, here in Thailand everyone is a giddy little teeny until they are 30+, then they become old, Adulthood never appears. As for the driving it appears the cam driver is teasing the red or the red car perceives the situation as such, evident by red car waiting for the crappy old cam car without muffler on several occasions waiting to take up the perceived race again, at one occasions at least the cam car is racing against the red car, until the jaris speeds past him and starts doing the loony thing again. Sorry wrong statement overstriken, mistake... Edited July 17, 2015 by AlQaholic

mike324
Some real punishment at last. Well done judge and to the motorist that posted the clip online. Edit to add video clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJzpvfLRmu8 Can't see how the accident is his fault but still no sympathy for him losing his car as his driving was dangerous. I agree, I don't see how it his fault. It seems like at 1:45 mark. The pickup truck on the right was more focused on the red yaris than the car merging his/her right. He suddenly swerved to the left to avoid the merging sedan causing the crash. The red yaris was trying to race the car that was filming or something, he stop and took off several times to tempt the video car. I agree with the fact that the white pick up which swerved was not focused on the inside lane. However we can't see what havoc was wrought on the other side of the pickup after it swerved. The red yaris was the catalyst for all of these actions and considering the motorcyclist, who careened under the car on the inside lane at the end of the video, I think prison time is warrented. Not saying this is what happened but it looks like the driver in the white pickup that started the accident got scared of the driver of the red Yaris. I think the pickup used his horn earlier in the video, and perhaps got scared by the driver of the Yaris after that and wanted to get away from him. The pickup is in fact first shifting lanes to the right, for what looks like to get away from the Yaris. The Yaris then comes back, crossing him again, which could easily be thought by the driver of the pickup as the Yaris came back for him. Yes, the pickup driver made an error when he suddenly turned to the left to cross the road, which led to an accident, but to me it looks like the driver of the Yaris is mostly to blame for his error. Also note that many Thais get offended and some even feel threatened by being horned at, I`ve been told not to use the horn here in Thailand unless it`s actually necessary (emergency use, for which the horn is actually meant to be used for). So with that taken into consideration, it may be the driver of the pickup thought he pissed off the driver in the red Yaris and got scared, which led him to cause the accident. Either way, the driver of the Yaris should have lost his drivers license for longer than 6 months and should`ve been given a higher fine. At leased they correctly confiscated his car, but he shouldn`t be be able to be back on the roads driving already after six months. That`s just wrong. That sounds like a correct assessment of the crash. My previous assessment was wrong regarding to the red yaris trying to race the video car. I do notice many Thai drivers get pissed easily when it comes to merging lanes or getting beeped at.

kannot
"The driver Chatree Linkun, 26, was arrested and sued in the Minburi provincial court." So where is the teenager referred to in this story? They only count mental age here, mentally he's 13 but really i dont see him causing an accident, for some reason the white pick up veered hard left. Borzandy
A 26 yo Thai is still a teenager, I confirm. But I don't know exactly the age he becomes an adult....36 to 46....

Because in another Thai news my wife read, she said that the person in the white truck swerved because the guy in the red car showed him a gun and pointed it at him, that's only what my wife said she read in a thai news article, and he swerved out of fear

wwest5829
I only halfway joke with my wife that in Thailand I continuously look ahead, behind, left, right and up and down as I never know where the action will be coming from. If you drive in Thailand without harm to life or limb, you cannot have altzeimer's!!
toybits
They should have also arrested the pickup driver that cut across the vehicle with the dash cam. Wonder what happened to the motorbike driver who was thrown off his bike?

HughJass
Looked like the typical Thai driving style to me ... are they going to arrest the whole population that drives now? And it was the white pickup that changed lanes that caused the accident, not the guy in the red car (even tho he was driving like a moron). looking at the video it seems like the guy driving the pickup decided to turn left from the third lane i cannot believe how stupid some drivers are here.or is it alcohol and other substances that are to blame? Thian
Bangkok has many similar cars with idiot drivers who drive like this. Some of them make huge noise as well, i almost get a heartattack if they drive by. So if we film those idiots and put them on youtube the Thai police will catch them? Now i need a dashcam. smutcakes
Regardless of him actually causing the accident, he should lose his licence/car for his awful, quick and weaving driving. Even if he is not directly responsible for the crash from the video, driving like that puts himself and many other drivers at risk. I know personally when there are people driving around me like that, i get a bit nervous and apprehensive, especially if the family is in the car and i drive 10's of thousands of km a year all over the country. fareastguy
Ok thee "Yaris" driver was doing some weird stuff, slowing down then accelerating away again & switching lanes like an idiot.. but what about the "white truck driver" In the video at approx 1.40 mins you can see he is in the outside lane actually indicating to turn right... he then suddenly cuts left in-front of the vehicle with the video which causes him to brake hard & the motorcyclist following to swerve to miss the back of him & crash into the vehicle in the left lane. The truck driver plainly caused this accident in the video & should have his truck reduced to a cube about the same size as his brain !!!! Another thing is a 500 baht fine... what is that all about ????

jackanapes
what about this for a deterrent 500 baht fine and 6 months off the road for dangerous driving and causing an accident I don't think confiscating his car will deter this young man . Got to agree, the guy was driving like a horses ass, but he had nothing to do with the retard in the white pick up pulling over sharply or the retard in the car taking the video that was unable to stop or indeed the retard on the motorbike that was going way too fast, methinks an appeal should be in order he needs a good lawyer. Pimay1
was a drug test done ? When he was arrested the police wanted to ask him questions but he said "no I'm too traumatized." Then they told him he would have to go to the police station and he replied "no, no, I'm not ready." The police acquiesced because he was not in any condition to be questioned. It's unclear if he was tested for alcohol or drugs. Oh silly me, I have him mixed up with Anna Reese.
