Timing belt on Toyota Hilux

Featured Replies

Has anyone had the timing belt changed on their Toyota and how much did they pay for parts and labour?

Thanking anyone for any replies in advance.

I don't know about the Toyota prices for this, but for my Opel Astra it was about 4500 Baht, much less than the damage done to the engine, if the belt rips in parts.

I had mine changed on my 2009 Toyota Fortuner 3.0L Diesel just last week. When you go over 150,000Km, which I had just done, the T-Belt light comes on in the dash. That was no surprise to me as the manual says that somewhere meaning it has reached Toyota's recommend change point. I think the light came on at the 150,030Km point.

Anyway, about a week and couple hundreds kilometers after the T-Belt light came on I took it to the Toyota Dealership to have the belt changed, 150K Km maintenance checkup done (i.e., oil change/filers, rotate tires, check brakes, etc).

The cost to replace the T-Belt was approx Bt2,700, with Bt2,050 of that Bt2,700 being parts. They actually created a separate invoice for that maintenance instead of lumping it in the with the 150K Km checkup bill. The parts they replace is more than just the T-Belt as they also replace the T-belt idler sub-assembly and T-belt tensioner like shown in below image. It's quick and easy for them to change.

By the way, the old belt did not show any wear or tear, no cracks, it still looked almost new...even the white lettering on the belt to identify part number, manufacturer was still clear as a bell. And the metal/mechanical idler and tensioner looked in good condition. The T-Belt components would have probably been good for another 150K Km before really needing changing. I bought the Fortuner new/I've been its only owner, so I know the belt had never been replaced...yeap, it still looked in very condition along with the idler pulley and tensioner.

But hey, just because a belt looks good externally with no sign of wear or cracking doesn't mean its internal strength, true condition of the rubber, dryness, etc., is still up to stuff. And of course you never know when an idler pulley bearing may start squeaking/screaming on you.

Just had mine done at Toyota and they charged me 2,467bt that was for parts and labour.

Parts to include all the bit's belt tensioner wheel and spring thingy.

It's a standard Toyota price, if you get asked for anymore they are putting the price up.

Took them 20 minutes from start to finish.
