Shanghai delegates visit Chiang Mai as its sister city

CHIANG MAI, 3 August 2015 (NNT) –A Delegation from the Shanghai Municipal Government and Foreign Affairs Office has paid a visit to Chiang Mai on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations. Meanwhile the number of Chinese tourists to Chiang Mai is expected to rise to 600,000 this year.

The Governor of Chiang Mai, Suriya Prasartbandit welcomed the Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Wang Zhong, and the Thai Consul-General to Shanghai, Parichat Luepaiboolphan on their official visit to Chiang Mai, which is a sister-city of Shanghai. The visit occurs on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.

The meeting was also attended by the heads of official divisions from Chiang Mai province, while both sides exchanged opinions on activities that could enhance the cities' relationship.

The Governor of Chiang Mai disclosed that the province welcomed about 400,000 tourists from China last year, while the number is expected to grow to 600,000 tourists this year.

He said that the beautiful nature and the conservation of the ancient city's layout were the factors that impressed Chinese tourists, adding that this is the strength of Chiang Mai that has allowed conservation tourism to flourish.

The Shanghai delegates and Chinese businessmen were also invited to attend the Lanna Expo 2015, set for commencement by mid September and organized by the upper northern region provinces.

Wild turtles we may be able to provide you with... but don't ask for rhinoceros horn.

We've hunted the beasts to the edge of extinction to supply the demand.

Unfortunately, that rhno has been declared extinct in the wild. Only zoos have them now. Sad, actually.sad.png
