HUA HIN:- Steering Committee Members of Building Bridges Thailand (BBT) were recently invited by the Petchaburi Governor, Mr Monthian Thongnit, to join Cha-Am Tambon leaders meeting at the Cha-Am Municipal offices.

The BBT Members were also welcomed by the Cha-Am Mayor, Mr Nukul Pornsomboon-Siri, who offered future meetings to discuss the Municipality’s interest in the group. The seven Members distributed a ‘Statement of Purpose’ document produced in the Thai language to those present and addressed the meeting to further explain their aims. They also presented the Governor, the Mayor and Khun Pittaya Wongkraisritong, Chief District Officer of the Cha-Am District, Petchaburi Province with a BBT shirt displaying the new BBT logo. A spokesperson for BBT expressed an appreciation of the interest shown by the Tambon leaders and commented on the group’s intent to establish positive relationships with all levels of government in Cha-Am. Building Bridges Thailand was formed on the initiative of Khun Pittaya, who introduced the idea of starting an organisation to promote positive relationships between foreign residents and the Cha-Am Thai community.
The following aims outline the group’s purpose:
- To arrange targeted practical assistance for foreigners.
- To increase the knowledge and understanding by foreigners of Thai culture, law, services and lifestyle.
- To increase the participation of foreign residents in the Thai community.
- To provide a forum to discuss issues for foreigners living in Thailand.
- To improve communication and links between foreigners and Thai organisations/agencies.
- To help Thai organisations and agencies understand the issues facing foreign residents.
Although still in the early stage of development, Building Bridges Thailand now has a website presence and will soon establish an internet forum for open discussion. As a voluntary organisation, expressions of interest from interested Cha-Am residents are welcome.
