Pattaya declares war on crime: Footpath intrusion

Here's your game plan city officials.

Write them a ticket, post a notice, take pictures of the offense and people involved. If they do not comply you fine them. If the fine is not paid you take them to court and put them in jail.

Oh yes, all city officials must refrain from taking bribes.

Your last sentence just killed that idea

interview some of these vendors to find out just how much each of them has been paying the police for the privilege of being allowed to operate in that spot.

The police act like they are shocked by this when the whole time it is them selling the sidewalks to these vendors. They sell the streets to the extortion taxi's and the allow the child slaves to be used for sympathy by the street beggars.

The BIB are the root of all evil and corruption in this country. They should all be fired and start over with a new, reformed bunch.

I have no problem with them rounding up these street vendors I just wish they would round up and arrest the cops too.

It is Walking Street, why walk on the footpaths where there are more obstacles, holes, uneven surfaces, when the street is wider blah, blah. One only uses footpath when bars are shut and traffic during the normal working day. At night there is more than enought sights to attract ones eyes without the footpath hazards...hee hee

About time these venders were cleared out, walking is a nightmare around Pattaya.

There was a "team" of them ( with police and army escort ) yesterday at the entrance road to our estate in Na-Jomtien demolishing (most of ) the shacks selling various things but mostly food that had sprung up over the past year on the footpath...some very unhappy Thais.

The picture in the OP seems to include a Russian go go dancer blocking the footpath! I wonder if anyone noticed?

No matter. I'm sure her work permit was in order and up to date...gigglem.gif

Clearing the footpaths of vendors wont really help people to walk !

The paths are still obstructed by electricity poles, telephone booths, telecom cabinets, trees, shrines to the gods, stray dogs, broken sewer covers, potholes, rubbish ( sometimes in bins), advertisements, motorcycle Taxi's etc etc

its much easier just to walk on the road than on the majority of Pattaya footpaths.

<deleted>? Badgering vendors and businesses on Walking Street.

How about cleaning up the sidewalks on Beach Road and Second Road FIRST. Those roads have traffic, walking street doesn't. Not to mention MANY other streets/Sois that could use a cleanup.

These idiots have no priorities. Of course, this is all just for show and nothing will come of it.

Wouldn't the sex industry be a protected occupation for Thais only? clap2.gifcheesy.gif

If not, it should be. Who the hell wants to see Russian hookers... in Thailand?

Thai army commander: "All right men, I need volunteers for a dangerous mission. You will be inspecting go go dancers on Walking Street. I won't lie to you, some of you won't be coming back."

"Daddy, how did you get that medal?"

"Walking Street. Operation GoGo. Lost a lot of friends there."

"I love the smell of GoGos in the morning... smells like victory."

When are they going to return the sois to traffic instead of yards of motorbike rentals. Declare a new city ordinance - renters can only display 3 models on a public street. 1000 baht fine for each one after this figure. The rewards would be enormous - not least allowing customers to park.

I hope they don't run that old guy off selling roses out of his handicapped gizmo.

He's a nice old guy.

I once bought every rose he had (I needed them).

He adds a lot of charm I think.

I used to stay at a buddy's apartment on Walking Street when he was out of town & I was on vacation.

My daughter was about 2 & absolutely LOVED all the lights & such.

She'd be raising hell, wanting to go out on Walking Street.

Poor old Pappy just shakes his head.

OH... NO ... Please God ... not another war on something. The USA hasn't won a war on anything in the last 60 years ... not on crime ... not on drugs ... not even against other countries. It's way too late for this slogan to work.

Please tell me something....where in the article does it mention the acronym USA? Where does it even hint at another country?

Then tell me why in the world would you tie a crackdown of local crime in Pattaya specifically Walking Street to the USA or anywhere remotely near its shores?

All this is written with the assumption that you can read. I stand to be corrected, but IMO I doubt it.

"war on crime" keep the pavement clear, well done lads, 20 people including military to tell people to keep the way clear. Outstanding work and not a waste of resources at all.

"More than half of them even said they would comply, Morakot said."

( The others coughed up the required amount and were left alone.)

Never mind walking street. At some spots, the valued visitor will have to walk on the streets because the sidewalks are impassable. It's not the first attempt trying to give the sidewalks back to the pedestrians. After 2 weeks, it's back to "business as usual".

Cheers.

+1...I'm afraid it's true.

One would think with the daily crackdowns, on one thing or another, Pattaya would be crime free by now. Oh, I forgot. That requires both follow up and real law enforcement.

Typical Thailand!! go after things that matter little! Most vendors are just trying to make a living and work long and hard to do it! Why not go after the real crime like the lady boys that gang up on a guy and steal his wallet or gold, ..... they get busted and a big show is made with a photo op, .. then they get fined 100 baht and are back on the street doing the same thing they just got busted for!

Please dont make me break out the crime statistic chart again. MEN are the overwhelming perpetrators of ALL types of crime, not ladyboys. Women are 2nd [emoji102]
