Dr Bowornsak asked to become advisor to Meechai’s CDC

BANGKOK: -- Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) chairman Meechai Ruchupan asked the media on Wednesday whether they would have any objection if he invites former CDC chairman Bowornsak Uwanno to become an advisor to his committee.

He said he had personally asked Dr Bowornsak to be an advisor of the CDC but the latter could not give him an answer because he had announced that he would not get involved in charter drafting again.

He claimed that he made the offer to Dr Bowornsak in his capacity as the former secretary of the CDC which wrote the 1997 charter and not in his capacity as the former CDC chairman.

Dr Bowornsak was worried that he would be bashed by the media if he gets involved in charter drafting again, said Mr Meechai, adding that he has to turn to the media and to ask them whether they would criticize him.

“If you can assure me that you will not criticize him, then I will benefit from you,” he was quoted to have said.

The CDC chairman said it was unnecessary for the CDC to appoint nine advisors and he preferred people who had past experiences in charter writer to be the advisors.

He maintained that drafting a charter should not involve just 21 people. He invited inputs from the other people as well as the media.

These are the guys making decisions for the country? They need consensus to do things? Who from the media does he expect to answer to that? It is getting so bad I cannot even see humor in it any more just blatant stupidity. Avoiding responsible actions at all cost.

He claimed that he made the offer to Dr Bowornsak in his capacity as the former secretary of the CDC which wrote the 1997 charter and not in his capacity as the former CDC chairman.

I'm sorry to say, you will get both Bowornsaks. The 1997 Bowornsak never leaves home without the updated 2015 Bowornsak.

The new CDC is proving itself to be a very exclusive club.

Unfortunately, democracy needs public inclusiveness.

He is, I think, asking for the man's political experience. What he gets is what he gets.

One thing he said seems to be contradictory, since all previous charters either failed or had been tossed away by one or more of the other 17 coups. "The CDC chairman said it was unnecessary for the CDC to appoint nine advisors and he preferred people who had past experiences in charter writer to be the advisors."
