Rains refill reservoirs in the Northeast

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 10 October 2015 (NNT) – The Regional Irrigation Office 8 has reported a rise in water reserves of five major reservoirs in the Northeast.

Heavy rains which gripped the Northeast early this week have added water to Lamtakong Dam, Lam Phra Phloeng Dam, Lam Moon Bon Dam, Lam Sae Dam and Lam Plai Mas Dam. Water levels of the five major water sources have increased to 47 percent of their capacity.

More rainfalls which are forecast in the region within a few days are expected to bring more water to the reservoirs.

However, the office said the suspension of water supply to the agro-sector would continue for the time being, in order to ensure enough supply for consumption in the coming dry season and to maintain the ecosystems.

So, does this mean they can plant rice now?

"supply for consumption in the coming dry season and to maintain the ecosystems"

Unless farmers are considered part of the eco system, I'd say no.

So they may be without food or money, but they'll have plenty of water to drink.

quote from the OP which you may have missed,

  • 5 weeks later...

My part of Lower Isaan has had some very useful late season rain storms in the last couple of evenings/nights - about 3 inches and two inches respectively if my bucket is any guide. Looking at the weather radar looks like:

  • it was the same system that has inundated Pattaya and South East Thailand, having come from the Philippines/Indonesia and passed through Cambodia
  • we were on the northern fringes of the system, so that Northern and Middle Isaan probably got little of it
  • that's the last of that system pretty much for now

Must remember to take the family to a waterfall for swimming in the next few days.

My garden and the wife's cassava says thank you!
