PHUKET: Two men were killed earlier today (October 10) in a police chase which took place in Thalang

Phuket Governor Chamreon Tipayapongthada is currently investigating the alleged deadly police chase that claimed the lives of two people, which led to a mob of angry residents led by the victim's parents, group together at Thalang police station demanding justice and explanation.

The two victims, Prathomwat Panarak, 22, and a 17-year-old whose name has been withheld, were allegedly chased by another patrol car which caused them to crash their motorbike on Tonsai Waterfall Rd in Thalang.

Thalang Police Lt Col Amnoy Kraiwuttianan explained that the two men were drug suspects and were speeding when they spotted a patrol police on Thepkasstri Rd near the airport. The patrol officers chased them down the road and asked them to pull over but they refused and carried on.

The motorbike lost control and slammed head on into another oncoming patrol car near the entrance of Tonsai Waterfall Rd. The crash impact left both victims with severe head injuries and were both pronounced dead upon arrival at Thalang Hospital.

Please forgive me for being the 'forever pessimist'. Maybe the villagers are upset because they thought (not me) the BIB rammed the motorbike head-on and killed these young men. The young men were probably bad eggs but what is the function of a police force?

Some one is lying about what actually happened and dead men can't tell tales.

RIP, young men. But why didn't they stop?

Maybe they did not wear helmets and could not afford to pay 300 baht - a day's wages?

That just cost them more than day's wages then.

Very true.

But my point is that at present we do not know the facts.

The BiB told their story, but there could be a different story.

It is a sad fact that BiB stories have to be mistrusted....

I was thinking of going there, but the situation might escalate to quite bad.

Yeah I could come in from the north am about 15 minutes from there but probably not a good idea, sounds like a full scale riot is occurring. PW reports 5 cars are now burning, not clear if marked police cars, or privately owned police cars

The TVF news bot is missing the boat on this one with that " 2 dead...." headline

They still didn't stop. My wife and I returned to our hotel tonight due to the rain. Not worth the risk as well as the nutters on LOS roads.

We all have choices.

How do you know they still didnt stop? Thats only the rtp version. Personally Im not too keen on trusting their version.

Pics of soldiers marching on PW has them about 500- 800 kilometers south of the police station i front of Makro- how big is this thing? Or is that just where they parked?

Sad waste of young lives. Don't know about these kids but I do know of a few who would race their bikes to escape the hassle of a shakedown regardless of whether or not they'd committed an offence. Such is the reputation of police integrity.

This comes on the heels of a 14 year old who was shot when reckless cops engaged alleged drug dealers in a firefight in the streets. Until RTP implements standards of conduct for police chases and use of firearms, and civilian boards are allowed to review RTP's actions, innocents will suffer. Who knows whether the suspects are actually involved in the drug trade or just being targeted by RTP for evidence to be planted on them?

Even if the police did something wrong here, and so far I have read nothing indicating that, a mob reaction like this is not justified.

PHUKET: An angry mob attacked Thalang Police Station and blockaded Thepkrasattri Road in an attempt to get to Superintendent Amnuay Kraiwuttianan last night.

The group of about 60 of the protesters descended on the station at about 6pm, setting fire to at least six police vehicles.

The outraged mob claimed that police used excessive force in their attempt to arrest two suspected drug dealers: Patomwat Panarak, 22, and Teerapong Srisamut, 17. Officers crashed their car into the fleeing suspects' motorbike at 11:30am yesterday.

Another fine example of the degeneration of Phuket and Thailand in general.

Come on T.A.T. how are you going to spin this one ?

Perhaps the authorities should tell the police that they ( thepolice) might be better employed in arresting the and curtailing the drug dealers activities as opposed to pulling in celebrities for posing in images involving alcohol?

.Both suspects died in the crash. At the scene, police found fifty ya ba (methamphetamine) pills.

Officers and military personnel have regained control of the situation and are currently negotiating with members of the mob, which was led by relatives of the deceased.

Well that's two less pieces of trash less to worry about . Play nasty games get a nasty response.
