Having to reboot Wifi repeater

Featured Replies

Have 2 wifi repeaters (different networks and location). Both work fine but need to be regularly rebooted (at least once every 2 days). If I don't get them to reboot they can find the network but it is unusable. Have seen same problems when searching the topic but no one seems to have a solution.

It is a real pain having to pull the plug on these things every day.

Anyone know what can be done?

Some WiFi 'repeaters' are only really compatible with their own 'brand' of networking equipment. They may work fine with competing brands of Access Points to peer against, but when an issue pops up they're likely to lock up rather than deal with it or automatically reset.

Also, does the 'repeater' have it's own IP address and can you access it via webconfig or other utility software, and does it have a software reboot option? If so, maybe you could programatically get some device that's already on the network to periodically send a reboot command. Yes, I know that's not ideal.

Even my Asus RT-N12 had issues working as a 'repeater'. On the third configuration it finally began working. Now I can unplug is for weeks and when I plug it back in it will connect/peer with the designated bssid of the main Access Point. But before that third configurations... only frustration when it stopped working for no apparent reason other than I wanted to use it.

Some connecting devices more than others seem to cause WiFi 'repeaters' to stop responding.

My preference is not to use 'repeaters' and prefer to add in additional WiFi Access Points, connected over Ethernet cable or Powerline Adapter (if the AC wire noise is low enough to allow their use).
