I agree with all posts!

I got offered a land plot & the chap is telling me the area is called Lak 18.

Even my wife who's from Udon is confused.

The seller is adamant it's called Lak 18!!!

That's why I asked. Apparently land plots are being built in by farangs.

I'm clueless!!

As everyone else seems to be.

Update ...

Apparently Lak 18 is 18km from udon airport

There's apparently a Lak 16 & 19 also

Nope, I still have no idea what he's on about & neither does my wife who's from udon or any friends or family who are living in Udon

I've told the chap to tell me the area /village name

He said 'Lak 18'

So a long way out - if it's not on the road to NK or KK then take care if it's in the jungle.

Kilo 18. Khok Sa-at, Amphur Mueang, Udon Thani. On Highway 210 approx. 18 kilos west of Udon. Near the Udon Golf Club and Resort (Kilo 18).

Thanks for this info.

So, is that area ok? Quiet? Anything around? Golf course is ok.

Lak = lak chai = milestone (where mile is indeed a kilometer).

http://www.thai2english.com/dictionary/milestone.html

So it simply means kilometer 18 on some road (here #210).

All Thai country roads have "mile"stones.

They are a good way to find an area (approximately).

Oops, not quite correct, as the km count of #210 starts in Loei and not in Udon.

So don't drive to milestone 18, its too far! biggrin.png

As @mackayae correcty writes, it would be:

Tambon Khok Sa-at in Amphoe Mueang Udon Thani.

Entry #19 in the list of tambon on this site ("Administration"):

Mueang Udon Thani District

Don't bother about spelling differences, useless chaos anyway.

Thai script is important.

And be aware that are other places with the same name (e.g. in Khon Kaen prov.).

Amphoe = district

Amphoe Mueang = city district.

Tambon = sub district

Amphoe Mueang Udon Thani is much bigger than the "city", 1,094.7 km2 (422.7 sq mi).

My wife has two pieces of land at Lak 18.......one a 3 rai piece with lots of teak, tagu, neem, coconut trees.....and what might be one of a handful of American oak trees. For sale, about 1 million Baht. Concrete road, and within range of 3BB fiber optic cable.

The second piece is paradise.......an acre (2.5 rai) with a well built house, guesthouse, fully shaded with lots and lots of mature trees and palms, the best water you'll ever taste....for sale. PM me if interested. Price about 6.3 million Baht.

I live 120 km south from Udon and drive on this highway #210 (four lane) only about 4 times a year passing this area on the east.

Never really noticed the name (I am on the rush to Udon tongue.png ).

For me it looks like s a typical rural Isan area with the advantage being close to Udon which serves the needs of foreigners quite well, has a busy airport with lot of connections to Bangkok and a few other domestic destinations.

Take this map as a starting point:

https://goo.gl/maps/FzMkmCtzqKC2

Its the area east of the Huai Luang lake.

All roads have been covered by Google streetview now.

So you can do a virtual tour tongue.png

Big lake with a big buddha.

That about all remarkable that I found.

The lake:

Too big to embedd, click:

If you drive south on #210 towards Nong Bua Lamphu, you reach a hilly area and the road gets somewhat curvy and steep.

A challenge for most Thai drivers laugh.png

Be careful and do a particular attention at Google Maps ;

Sometimes there are roads on Google maps which doesn't exist really ;

I have two example not far from my house in Sawang Daen Din district - Sakon Nakhon province ;
