Featured Replies

My optician has moved. Can anyone recommend a good optician?

Thanks ,in advance, for any response.

4.Real.

There is only one optician i would go to now in Pattaya - Euro Optic Dr Maria Abalon opposite the Garden Plaza on 2nd Road.

An optician is a person that fits glasses on your face

An optometrist is a doctor (not an MD) who tests and prescribes lenses

What is the OP looking for ?

Euro optic second road opposite royal garden

Just made new glasses at a shop at Central Plaza. Was very impressed with their consultation. It's more to the middle of the 2nd floor, there's another one that didn't seem to have any interest in selling something. Try them both, you will find out within seconds whether you walked into the right one.

Euro across from Royal Garden is run by a filipina Dr. who I found was very good.

Yes and no.

Certainly US citizens (and Thais) would understand the difference but most people from the UK or much of Europe would expect an optician to do a simple eye-test and prescribe lenses also. But they may not do a full eye-test which might include measuring the pressure inside the eye and looking at it to detect and diagnose any problems, and tests related to colour perception etc.

The optician (Boots) in the UK that I go to is a fully trained specialist who does the full eye-test which takes nearly an hour. They do this for free if you buy a pair of glasses from them (without purchase if you are over 60), and the glasses are no more expensive than they are here.

A step up from that would be the places that do the full field of view test, and I've only come across those in eye clinics.
