Thai men who murdered Good Samaritan Luke Mitchell have been jailed for 24 years
Adam Cooper

MELBOURNE: -- Two Thai men found guilty of murdering Good Samaritan Luke Mitchell, who was repeatedly stabbed outside a Brunswick 7-Eleven more than six years ago, have each been jailed for 24 years.

Thatiya Terdputham, 40, and Sarud Seehaverachart, 33, must spend at least 18 years in prison after both were found guilty in September of Mr Mitchell's murder by a Supreme Court jury.

The two men were found to have punched, kicked and stabbed Mr Mitchell in the early hours of May 24, 2009 in retribution for an earlier fight with him, when he had gone to the aid of his sister-in-law, who in turn had exchanged words with the men when they confronted another man.

Luke Mitchell was repeatedly stabbed outside a Brunswick 7-Eleven.

Terdputham, Seehaverachart and their then friend, Teparat Tepsut, went and armed themselves with knives and a meat cleaver before they went looking for Mr Mitchell, who had been on a night out with sister-in-law Daniella and her friends.

Not long enough, but okay. Good to see justice done, and may his family now be able to get more closure.

May these cowardly animals also get closure. Of a cell door onto their heads.

I would presume that this is backdated to the date of arrest and detention, which is likely around 5 years ago in Thailand when they were picked up.

So only about 13 more years to serve.

Doesn't quite seem right. 40 years with a minimum of 24 would be a more just sentence.

As long as Thai people kill other Thai people in Thailand, this is not of our concern, but when Thai people

goes on a rampage killing of a good Samaritan who just wanted to stop a fight and get stabbed and

butchered by 3 Thai thugs, this IS OF OUR CONCERN...... if it was up to me, I'd lock them up for life....

Anyone know any lifers in prison in Australia?..... coffee1.gif

Do not worry, they will not be having easy good times .

Not only there is no Thai tv, but there is no Thai food and rape is very common unlike Thai jails

More than likely, they will be celled together minimizing being raped by one of the Australian blokes. However, since gender confusion is prevalent among Thais, they probably will enjoy each others company as man and wife while incarcerated.

Australian prisons are much easier to do time than a Thai prison. The Aussies tend to coddle their prisoners, so it isn't as bad as one might think.

These guys must have really been in a daze. They thought they were in Thailand.

Where their thuggish, cowardly actions are common place.

Must have been real surprised when they got more than a 1000B fine. Given that it was a falang...

Being jailed together in 1 cell does not prevent rapes . Blocks are split by nationalities, they will be asked where they want to be. Middle eastern or Pacific Islanders or Asian or Australian(white) or aborigines .

Then if they pick Asian and Asian at war with whoever , they must be involved or else .

Other gangs will pick on the weakest and newest no matter what , so rest assured they would be raped and assaulted for the first few years at least

Clearly you have not done a day in Australian jail . Being held in cells in police station does not even give you a sniff of what max security like silverwater as example

Actually, besides Darcy (introduction wing) for inmates who just arrive, the MRRC Silverwater complex is not a violent prison in any way. There have a been a few incidents, but overall it is not violent or a bad prison to be at.

Compared to places like Lithgow and Goulburn.

But alas. we talk of a different state to the system these cowards are in. I'm sure the screws won't be bending over backwards to ensure their time is nice and cosy.

I assume that is possible parole after serving only 18 years. Nope, not nearly long enough by a country mile. Damn, Australian courts are as cowardly liberal as courts in America, my country.

They will be deported as soon as released. Unless some dogooding idiots marry them and cause a few years of delay. They may be eligible to be sent to Thailand to serve sentence but I doubt they will want BKK Hilton.

Lol. Yes it's a lovely peaceful heaven where inmates run to the papers to report each rape or assault.

No, 40 years with a minimum of 40 years would be justice.

Why on earth do judges hand down these sentences and then cut them down?

I wish they had the balls to put scumbags away for as long as they deserve.

Done over 1000 days on the west coast and no segragation unless for rock spiders (paedos) and blokes who did bad to older folk. Also had a dog yard and segregation for the incorrigible. Rape is certainly not common either. Thats bullshit and a fallacy.

Care to share where and what west coast is?

Once you stop playing with dolls pretending to be the bad guy, let me know and will be happy to show you what really happens in Australian jails and how one is turned into a bitchthumbsup.gif

I certainly appreciate your invitation, but I don't share your same interest in man love.

Yes you prefer dolls, you made it pretty clearthumbsup.gif

Apparently when asked to point to the area on the doll where the bad men touched you in prison, brought back some bad memories. Hopefully, you will be able to move on. Anger management may be something for you to consider.

The two Thais that were sentenced in Australia, can count their lucky stars they will be occupying a prison cell in Australia, and not in Thailand. Australian prisons are like country clubs compared to Thai prisons.
