Long shot

Does anybody know of a lake design company. I'm in the early stages of building a small resort/restaurant and fishing park in Khon Kaen. I already have builders, excavators and lawyers. I'm not looking for business advice, I have a 30 year lease on the land. I'm also not expecting to make a fortune. I'm a passionate angler with an outside Thailand source of income. It's my dream to run a small fishing park in Thailand. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nice, hope it all goes well, sounds like a good plan.

Good to be able to live the dream.

Thanks Maxninja, you will be first on the list for a free days fishing when it's complete! Haha. Basically my long term girlfriend has just been signed over some land from her mother. It is around 350 metres long and 24 metres wide. We are looking to purchase and in negotiations with the neighbours for a part of their land approximately 2 rai. It's is down the end of our plot and will give us the perfect area to dig a small fishing lake. I'm a keen angler having a few world record fish under my belt, but I am tired of traveling to get the big fish and am looking to build a nice little resort mainly geared at expats and looking after the grounds. Trouble is I am not very clued up on fishery management!

Hahah thanks, im down in Buriram some time but stay in the Isle of Man where fishing is really good.

Only problem would be keeping the locals out of the Lake? But sure that could be sorted with security.

I would love to build a lake but no funds or time, although hoping to go fishing in Mekong this year.

Whatever happens all the best.

The lake is approximately 100m away from her Aunty's house. Also her Mums house is 200m and the neighbours are also family. But yes that is a concern! The first stage will be building a 2 bed bungalow and digging the lake itself along with the well. Once it has been left to mature for 1 year we will be sticking with fish. The local copper is a family friend and lives 50 metres away. Also the uncle is the Poo ya boon (excuse my spelling). We will be living in the bungalow beside the lake and have a wall/fence combo surrounding the property. I'm an ex sparky by trade (now work offshore) so will be installing cctv throughout. I hope this is enough as there will be some expensive fish in the lake! The image attached is me ( black hair green vest) with a 365 pound Mekong catfish I caught just earlier this week. The other is of me and John Wilson. I was fishing with him once again last week. Great guy and great to learn from him.post-199993-14508944120005_thumb.jpgpost-199993-14508944789078_thumb.jpg

I've seen a lot of ponds dug and have dug a couple myself. The two most common methods are the cable drag line or an excavator. For a large pond you really need a drag line with an anchor called a tailhold and a skyline and a drawback line. It could be done with an excavator by starting near the middle, digging a hole, and then working your way out in all directions, always keeping the excavator on virgin ground. In both cases of course you have to plan what you are going to do with the excavated dirt.

Hi CJK1

You might want to goo to the farming section and ask those guys. A number of the posts and guys run fish farms etc.

Good luck with the pond and let us know when it's ready.

I have a small pond 22 meters x 20 meters with about 8 different types of fish, occasionally get the rods and reels out and catch a few.
