Wall building material (brick/stone/concrete) that doesn't need skimming

Featured Replies

For my small hotel guest rooms, I usually build the walls using block 'it-bok', then skim it with cement and paint it. It is a cheap and sturdy way to build these basic rooms.

I am just about to build another 4 guest rooms and would like to know if there are other building materials that I could use which don't require the skim and paint finish.

I could build using red brick...

or maybe build with it-bok, then face it with a stone-effect tile

Any suggestions? I just want to try something different.

gypsum boards and then dryline joints.

gypsum boards and then dryline joints.

Sorry, I should have explained better - these are external walls. In any case, gypsum boards would have almost zero noise insulation.

Many of the Shera / Conwood wood substitute products are self coloured and with careful installation on a concrete / steel / timber (watch for termites) frame need little additional finishing. Foam insulation and internal gypsum to complete the wall (put the power and water infrastructure in first).

Looks suitably rustic to go with your Ayutthaya roof :)
