Highway 2 u-turns, north of Khon Kaen city center. Pictures please.

In the Pattaya forum, there's a post about the city (mis)management's plan to open a single u-turn on a long, straight stretch of Sukhumvit heading south of town where previously there were two u-turns on this stretch. Nobody observes the speed limit (no surprise there) and the road is heavily used by speeding tourist buses so their plan is fraught with danger for all road users.

I was impressed how Khon Kaen have addressed the u-turn issue on their fast, straight section of the Mitraparp headed north with the increased signage about the 80 kph speed limit and the camera enforcement. It seems to work as I seldom observed vehicles racing much over 85 kph.

On my latest drive through I see how they have added a very effective solution to the impatient buggers that cut in at the front of a u-turn by placing poles and water-filled dividers on the 'fast' lanes that prevents multiple lines of turning traffic.

If anyone has time to take some pictures of these restricted u-turns and post them here, it would be much appreciated as some concerned Pattaya forum members, myself included, consider the KK solution would work very well on Pattaya's 'drag strip' and could present these options to city managers that seem to be totally winging it in the face of local Thai's discontent on the planned single u-turn.

You can PM me if you want to provide the pictures or links to them by email.

Thanks and have a safe day!

Last time I drove north there was on Monday (22).

But never cared to take pictures.

placing poles and water-filled dividers on the 'fast' lanes that prevents multiple lines of turning traffic

This has been done long before the speed signs and cameras and only at the small U-turns north.

And I don't think it would be a good idea at the big U-turns on the south which are 30 m wide or so and four lanes at the turning area.

Far south the inevitable has been done: a traffic light at the U-turn.

A couple of pictures of the new signs and the countless video cameras in this blog (nothing about the U-turns).

Two examples from that:

Why a rich area like Pattaya/Sukhumvit can not be equipped with such anti speeding measures?

They are too busy with helmet checks wink.png

And you can bet the cameras work even in our small district town.

Sometime I find a strange letter in the box.

I had been before the stop line and continued to turn right on yellow light.

It's all "silent", no flash or anything.

Thanks for those links and pictures. One of the pictures in the link shows the orange dividers in the mid-far distance but it doesn't zoom well. Hopefully, someone will grab a close-up snapshot for us.
