BANGKOK: -- Thailand yesterday invited South Korea businessmen to invest in new major rail and water management projects in the country after ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) goes into effect.

The invitation was extended as Thai deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak and his delegation met President Ms Park Geun-Hye during the official visit to boost business cooperation.

During the meeting, Mr Somkid expressed his desire to have Korean businesses invest in major national infrastructure projects in Thailand such as the planned new electric rail projects that will connect the eastern and western economic corridor along the Mukdaharn-Mae Sot routes in Tak province.

Other vital routes are the Bangkok-Rayong line as well as the metropolitan Pink electric rail line in Bangkok.

The deputy prime minister also proposed national water management projects, the planned construction of the 3rd phase of the Laem Chabang Port, as well as future satellite projects and the government’s planned special economic zones for consideration.

Plans to have Thai guides familiarize themselves with the Korean language were also being promoted in hope to promote more Korean tourists to the country.

As a side project, plans to promote Korean popular culture such as Korean movies and K-Pop artists in Thailand were also pushed to the fore.

In all, the Thai government hopes to increase the value of trade between both countries by twofold within the next five year period.

Sometimes i wonder, with all the talking from last year, with all the project there has begin in the beginning off this year, to make economic grow. None as i know and read about in the past, has been contracted out yet.

Is this government out of money , because every time we hear other peoples/investors money has to come first wai.gif

Invest in water projects ?

What water, there isn't any !

Not to mention, there is no return on investment for water projects, generally, except for drinking water plants.

Clearly, the Chinese have no money to spend on Thailand, so it's back to the Japanese and Koreans. Can't imagine they will view Thailand favorably, given the choices in ASEAN.
