PM orders Chiang Mai governor bring haze situation under control

CHIANG MAI, 2 May 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has ordered the governor of Chiang Mai province and relevant agencies to work closely together to deal with the haze situation currently impacting the ASEAN region.

Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has concluded his visit to Chiang Mai province by stating that the trip was to follow up on the implementation of state policy. Among the areas he observed while in the province was agriculture, with a focus on the haze situation, which is being exacerbated by forest fires.

He stated his administration has tasked Chiang Mai’s governor with coordinating the work of all relevant agencies to remedy the problem by zoning off areas susceptible to fires and unifying the work of all bodies. He has also called for better cooperation with fellow ASEAN nations both on short term and long term solutions.

The premier responded to calls to make the haze problem a national agenda, saying that it can be considered included in the agenda to care for national forest areas as well as part of reforms for better management of natural resources.

Hmm - make the haze problem a national agenda just as the rainy season is starting and the problem will go away for another year - what're the chances it'll be forgotten about until March next year?

LOL. Could you imagine if he did declare war on Burma?

All the Burmese would have to do would be to drop their shorts to make the Thais lose face and their carefully rehearsed war plan would go out the windows as they lose control.

With the level of immaturity and lack of self control currently being displayed by the top general right down to the drunken street thug, it's hard to imagine an effective military force here.

The PM might also require the Chiang Mai governor to make it rain on demand...while he is making demands...

CM is like a bowl - and it's mostly the local farmers that do the burning off of crop stalks - so the smoke sinks and creates the haze/smog - they've been doing it for decades and doubt it will ever change - but ASEAN to blame - good luck CM governor - feel AA or inactive post awaiting

Last week the Chiang Mai governor got a roasting from Prayuth on where is his loyalty placed. This week the screw is on. Nobody crossed his path and get away with it.

It wouldn't be a problem if the authorities, local and national, did their job and put a stop to the problem at source.

And one source of forest fires in Chiang Mai is the army owned and controlled forest around Doi Suthep. That would be a good place to start.

Anyone walking through said forest in the past two or three weeks will see the newly charred forest floor and trees, with a neat little unscorched path running through them. First forest on one side of the path was burned. Then all of the other side. Evidence of 'controlled' burning. We are talking vast areas of forest right in the heart of Chiang Mai.

How about stop burning crops and what so ever and enforce the law !!

This crops up each year ,and has been going on for centuries , this is the old Thai farmer doing what he only knows and to hell with all their new fangled agriculture idea's, until their attitude changes and everyone abides with non burning rules or younger members take over with new cropping methods or they suffocate it will stay this way , you only have to go to Singapore in the burning off season to find out how bad it is..........................................
