How do I stop this W10

Today when I switched on my PC I saw a message asking if I want to upgrade now or later today. I just clicked the X to get rid of the message

I just want to keep my W7. How can I stop these messages

Yes, the GWX control panel works and will free up hard drive space since your computer has more than likely downloaded the files needed to install W10.

I have used all the versions. I tried very hard to like Windows 8 and 8.1 but like most feel..it was terrible. Windows 10, IMO, is a whole other thing. I installed it when it first came available onto my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and never had a problem, but more than that, I found it enjoyable to use. With my latest PC build, I gladly bought another license. 0 install issues and again, it's just an enjoyable OS to use. Very close to your Windows 7 experience, but taken some of the very few good bits of Windows 8. I now like the start menu (although I was opposed to it when I heard it would be a feature in Windows 10). It is easy to customize how you like. I make full use of Onedrive (I get 1TB of space with my Office 365 subscription) and it is now fully integrated into Windows 10. There are now multiple desktop, we'll see if I make use of them. I definitely would if the implementation was more like Linux.

Point is, there is a good chance you will like Windows 10 and maybe even more than Windows 7. My 74 year old Dad did all the upgrades and now uses Windows 10. He doesn't really care either way. The OS and Computer is just a tool for him to get to his AOL email (LOL, can't change him) and run his business application. There is always risk, and if you like and are completely comfortable with Windows 7, then keep it. Your annoyance should end in July (if not before that if you can effect a chnage) and Microsoft will be supporting with security updates through Jan. 14, 2020.

non-cents ... nice one...quite apt BUT I sort of know my way around W7, use Office 2007 etc.

I've installed and support Windows 10 on a couple of PCs, am quite familiar w/ it, but see no advantage for my personal box. My Win7 is already tweaked to run and look great. I recommend Classic Shell (yep), 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, and a good style on deviantart. I like Shiki Colors and the WinTango icon patcher. I've restored the quick launcher. Virtual desktops, use Dexpot. So, looks like Linux w/o the hassle of Linux and with the software I need to run.

I am running W10 on 2 laptops (8 and 6 years old) and on my desktop. I got a free upgrade from a bent copy of W7 for all 3 about 8 months ago and I have had very few problems other than learning which icons did what.

Regards from one who remembers a life when the few computers in the world were huge and driven by diode valves, when even transistors were in their infancy.

People tend to react strongly to being forced into doing something. Despite what other posters might imply, Windows 10 is probably one of the smoothest windows upgrade ever. Issues are very rare.

However, because Microsoft has decided to resort to very dubious means to get users to upgrade, the backlash is violent.

If you keep it just rational, the best recommendation is still to upgrade to windows 10.

I think the problems people have with Windows 10 are caused by the operator fiddling with it. I downloaded it and just let it do its thing. Updates are automatic and I don't know it even updated until I shut down and I see the message to not turn the computer off.

Millions of Pc, MS Can't test all possible configurations, so there will be of course problems, but to blame them on operator error . Of course some of them are but most of them not.

Personal running 5 devices running Windows OS, 3 upgraded no problem to Win 10, 2, had sh*tloads of problems, 1 even needed a reinstall and the other fortunately rolled back successfully to the previous OS. So you think I will "upgrade" them again ? N F W.

I'd say just do the upgrade before you find you want to and have to pay $119 for the privilege.

True, but AFAIK, if you do the upgrade and roll back to the previous OS you can install Windows 10 (for free) on the same device even after the Free upgrade period has expired.

However, don't go changing your Mother Board etc then it will not work
