Issues discussed in the Cabinet meeting today

The Prime Minister, Gen. Surayud Chulanont, chaired the Cabinet meeting today. The urgent tasks at hand include the revival of the flood-affected people, the approval of the budget to restore public utilities, and the search for solutions to the problems in the South. Another important issue is the operational framework of the government following its policy declaration to the National Assembly (NLA) last week.

During today's Cabinet meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, has proposed a plan to solve the debt of the Agricultural Assistance and Policy Fund. The fund has a debt of 100 billion baht, and M.R. Pridiyathorn has suggested the Cabinet to sell four foreign real properties owned by the Ministry of Defence, in order to solve the debt problem.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister Kosit Panpiemras has asked the Cabinet to consider the allocation of a loan budget to support sugarcane farming for the next two years.

Education Minister Wichit Srisa-arn has also requested for the Cabinet to approve the establishment of fiveRajaprachanukroh Schools in the five southern provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun, and Songkhla. The budget for this project is 292.67 million baht.

The Cabinet has to consider the rate of 305 teachers to prepare for the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne.
