The father of my two step kids tells them they don't have to wear seat belts when he is driving because "he is a good driver " .

Thai Logic i suppose but then there is no accounting for " the other good drivers" who are the road at the same time .

Why would I de-activate the airbags ?.

doing something as stupid as that would require me to wear the seatbelt, No thanks.

Thai road rules require you to wear the seatbelt.

You insult the Thai laws?

It's not only seat belts. I walk down to my local shops a couple of nights a week. it includes a five minute stroll beside a local highway. I started counting how many cars drive without headlights. I always get to twenty in less than five minutes. Amazing how so many cars cannot be bothered to turn their lights on at night.

Seatbelts increase the risk of common minor injuries like whiplash but significantly decrease the risk of major injury or death.

Yep. Everyday I treat them road rules with disrespect and scornful abuse.

You should see what I do to the speed limits !!

I couldn't care less if people don't wear seat belts. Up to them. I do, for my own safety, but if someone else doesn't, no impact on me.

Somebody has to pick up the pieces after they've been thrown out of the car and provide nursing care for the rest of their possibly vegetative lives.

And all that trafic jam it causes....

In motor vehicle crashes resulting in airbag deployment, drivers and passengers who are not wearing seatbelts are at higher risk of cervical spine (neck) fractures and other spinal cord injuries.

Automobile airbags were shown to be highly successful in reducing injuries resulting from frontal collisions, reducing fatality rates by about 20 percent compared to seatbelts alone. Airbags were specifically designed to be used with seatbelts--serious injuries may result in victims who, because they are not properly restrained by seatbelts, are "out of position" when airbags deploy.

(I'm still looking for the study about seatbelts preventing accidents ...weird, I only found some links to a Thai university who claims they invented that.)
