FTA Watch Group calls on PM to halt all FTA negotiations

FTA Watch Group has called on the Prime Minister to halt all FTA negotiations until the government enacts a new law covering international negotiations.

Mr. Nimitr Tian-udom (นิมิตร์ เทียนอุดม), a member of the FTA Watch Group, and 49 representatives of college students went to the Government House to submit a letter to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, requesting him to halt all FTA negotiations especially the one made between Thailand and Japan.

The group cited as reasons that the negotiations had been carried out without public participation from the beginning. The group also suspected overlapping of interest involved by the last government.

At the same time, the group asked the government to enact a law that will allow public participation at the decision-making level and in setting direction for the country’s development.
