Gmail app problems on my smartphone

Featured Replies

When freeing up space on my smartphone to install the latest Facebook app yesterday, I fear that I may have inadvertently done something catastrophic to Google App, Google Play services or Google Play Store (can no longer recall which of the 3 it was) . As a result I am now being constantly bombarded with the message "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped".

However it only appears to be Gmail which has been affected by whatever I have done. When I click on the icon the in box appears but with nothing in it other than a worrying message "Couldn't sign in" (along with "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" over and over again, of course). And clicking on "Sign in" has no effect. I can, however, access the contents of my in box by selecting Priority Inbox.

Can anyone please say what I may have done on the basis of the info I have provided, and what needs to be done to resolve matters?

Unfortunately these links didn't resolve the problem, but thanks for them anyway.

However when I scroll down to and click on Google under Accounts in Settings I am advised of a sync error in connection with my gmail address (including a worrying red circular blob containing 2 circular arrows), particularly in respect of Calendar, Gmail and People details it would seem. The actual error message reads "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly". But this has been going on for more than 12 hours now!

So unless advised to the contrary I fear that the only option now open to me is probably a complete reinstallation sad.png
