What size and type of batteries are you looking for? Are you looking for a 3 cell Lipo pack for an JR or Futaba R/C transmitter, or are you looking for rechargeable AA's to fit in the plastic stack pack that comes with the R/C transmitter?

Anything R/C related I have never found in Issan. There are R/C shops in Pattaya & BKK, but none out here, that I am aware of. If someone knows of an R/C shop in Issan, I'd like to know about that as well.

You can order Lipos from Hobby King if you aren't going to Pattaya or BKK. Just put a dot com after hobbyking. If you order from them, select regular mail for shipping. If you choose any fast delivery option, you increase your chance of having to pay duty. A small package shipped regular mail should avoid duty. It always has for me.

As far as balsa wood, there isn't any in Issan that I have ever seen. Hobby King is you best bet here as well.

I have only ever spoken with a very few people that fly R/c out here. Lots of folks do in Pattaya & BKK. Well to do Thai's are really into it - planes, jets and helicopters. It's amazing what some of these guys have.

I need the lipo 3 cell pack. I have found balsa wood in the stationary shop of all places next to SK shopping center called Ruam Sin thai. There is a bunch of Thai guys that fly assorts of planes out at Ban Nikom near Huay Wong Nong. They have a real decent range of toys, I can't imagine they get their stuff from BKK. I may have to take a drive there and have a chat to the guys.

Thanks for your detailed reply. If I can locate a store here I will let you know.

Out of curiosity and not to sound like the police....I noticed that the location is near the airport. I kept reading that it is generally banned flying drones ( I assume RC Planes would fall into the same category? ) within a certain distance of an airport and military base. Does anybody know what the current law or regulation is in thailand? I kept thinking about getting a drone, but whenever that thought crossed my mind, I remembered I am right next to the airport.

If in fact the laws are very lax, I may know what my Christmas present will be :)

This area where the guys fly J is right in the flight path of the runway. When I lived just around the corner I stopped regularly to watch them. I don't think they got that high but you never know.

A drone would be a lot of fun. A hint to Santa B could be on the cards??:clap2:

The informal agreement that the RC model association has with the FAA (in the US) says that no RC aircraft is to be flown over 400 ft and has to be in sight of the operator, at all times.

I've never heard of any regs here about RC, but common sense would dictate you don't want to fly in the flight path of a landing aircraft. Any aircraft taking off would probably be at least 500 to 800 ft by the time they cleared the end of the runway. From the looks of the image, it doesn't appear that normal RC flight would be an interference to aircraft.

According to Google Earth, that dirt field/lot is 1.06 kilometers from the runway threshold and .6 from the line of final approach, so I think you're good.

Now, flying an RC aircraft/quad with FPV & flying toward the airport would not be a wise thing to do & could result from a visit from the BIB if some pilot reported seeing a drone in close proximity to his approach.

AliasJOhn,

Just curious...Did you find a shop anywhere in Issan that has R/C batteries, planes, parts?

Unfortunately not in Ubon. I will keep looking though. Not in a real hurry.

Cheers
