His supporters will soon be so <deleted> tired of him when he can´t forfill his promises, wait and see.

It's hard to say. Authoritarian leaders with followers that are motivated by hatred can often be placated with loud ultra nationalism and token shows. People bought a FEELING more than anything. He can provide FEELINGS for a very long time.

Congratulations Putin.

Goodbye NATO, it was nice knowing you.

So long Baltic states, I'm glad I visited while you were independent nations.

Yeah, the biggest winner tonight is indeed fellow authoritarian Putin.

Uncertainty causes investors to seek safe havens. the $USD and US Treasuries are that. Presidents come and go but America isn't going anywhere.

Uncertainty didn't favour the sterling and it will crucify the green back

Stop making it up. He never said he wants to destroy NATO. He just wants Europe to pay what they owe for the US forces. NATO forces ( other than the US and Britain ) are a joke anyway, as they all depend on the US to do the heavy lifting. I hope he does give them a good slapping.

I wonder if Obama is feeling foolish now, given he has to go out in public and hand over to the man he so roundly insulted? That seemed very unpresidential to me.

It could be the first handover when there is no handshake.

Also, by exceeding the bounds of merely supporting her and descending to rude talk ( didn't he call for more civility a few years ago? ) he has given Trump an incentive to destroy any reminder of Obama's legacy. Obama is going to regret his insults and public denigration. Of all the people that believed in HRC winning, he has the most to lose by being wrong.

I think if Kim Kardashian runs in 2020 she could get first female President.

I will sleep badly trying not to imagine that nightmare.

I would put a bet on Michelle O trying for it though. No doubt she now has a taste for AF1 and the high life when people pretend to take her seriously.

I think nothing will happen. I seriously doubt Trump will have any impact. Government is its own industry of obstruction.

Congress has done virtually nothing in the last 4 years. The country still exists.

Politicians need to be worried that the population will wake up one day and realize they don't need elected politicians.

He has not been rude, just telling it like it is [emoji1] .

As Spain has discovered: didn't have a government in place for a year, until last month, and yet had the best growth figures for almost a decade during that government-less period.

Yes. I was wrong. American voters more idiotic and self destructive than I thought.

You are a hypocrite. More dangerous than any politician because you call your (what I assume) fellow citizens dumb and destructive for casting a vote.

It's a shameful thing to say, really. You should be celebrating the democracy as it proved to everyone (yes, even Donald Trump) that the system is not "rigged".

Yep, enjoy Thai democracy. Guess that's why you are here after all.

He won't reunite the country. The country will be more divided than ever now. Hate won.

Maybe you can't see it, but the US is divided beyond reconcile.

Rural and small town hard working people have nothing in common with city dwellers in N Y or L A that drive a desk and move money around, or live in slums on taxpayer largesse.

The task of the future for everyone on the planet is to work out some way for everyone to live together, especially when AI removes most people's means of earning a living.

At the moment there is no conversation about the most profound change coming to humans since the invention of writing.

It's gonna be so good seeing Obama welcome President Elect Trump to the WH for a sitdown this week and then seeming them at the inauguration next January, knowing what he's said about Trump,  his active campaign against him in the election, and him knowing that the people repudiated him and his legacy in favor of Trump in the election

Goes double for Michelle and Milania too.

Democracy is only when they win...anything else is "fascism."

TRUMP: Have they fulfilled their obligations to us? If they fulfill their obligations to us, the answer is yes.

Seems pretty clear to me. If they want to be protected by the US pay what they are obliged to under the treaty, or they won't be in the treaty. If they pay what they owe they are in the treaty and the US will support them.

Do you support nations that don't fulfill their obligations? Europe has been ripping off the US for years.

Estonia pays its share and suffered more casualties per capita than the US fighting for us in Iraq.

But what the heck, it's a small country, why not give Estonia to Russia and maybe Putin will allow a Trump Tower in Moscow.

The buyer's remorse will set in shortly. America -- you've been conned by a masterful con artist. You should have known better but now we'll all suffer. No, you can't have a redo.

Quote

Can America survive President Donald Trump?

Much was made of the anger that fueled Trump supporters. Anger at the loss of good-paying jobs for those without college education. Anger at the idea that undocumented immigrants were taking jobs from American citizens. Anger at multiculturalism and the attendant demands of "political correctness." Anger that the government system is rigged against them. Anger that media elites and other establishment types look down on them.

That anger may subside for a time as they celebrate Trump's victory, but it will surely return when they come to recognize — as many of us already have — that he is a grotesque fraud and a spectacular liar.

I've been very consistent, actually, in my very low opinion of the intelligence of people who fell for CON MAN trump. It would be one thing if it wasn't well documented he was a con man, so no excuse. That is not hypocrisy, dude. Poor use of the word.

Hillary was corrupt, and another corrupt politician in the white house was not desired by most Americans.  We gave Obama a chance to surprise us and I got what I expected, but many were disappointed. The guy might surprise, he already has stated he will not be taking the salary of $400K USD per year. Symbolic, but it is something and might be a start.

So the fact that Hillary was at least as fake and phony as "the Donald" doesn't make her supporters equally stupid? That is hypocrisy.  The choice was between a douche, and a turd..... the douche won (from a recent South Park episode).

Perhaps they have other money making ideas.  The Trumps seem comfortable with the crony capitalism entrenched in Russia, and having the head Trump as President could certainly facilitate deals:

"In the past, however, the Trumps longed to break into the Moscow property market. And, for all their unfamiliarity with geopolitics, they have grasped the rudiments of Russian capitalism. “It is a question of who knows who,” Donald junior noted, adding that “what it is they want to happen is ultimately what happens.” Mr Trump’s campaign did not respond to questions about his business plans..."  http://www.economist.com/news/united-states/21709293-what-explains-republican-nominees-fondness-russias-president-my-brilliant-friend

Trump has made no commitment to put his assets into a blind trust, and he never will.  Of course he will insist there was no quid pro quo when the US drops sanctions against Russia and Trump Jr. gets those long sought after real estate deals in Moscow.

The Trump family will no doubt push ethical boundaries while seeking dubious financial opportunities ala Hugh Rodham and Billy Carter. I'm sure the media will be closely watching. At least I hope so. Would not be surprised if it became Trump's undoing, but today I'm whistling past the graveyard and just hoping for the best.

Yes. With a Republican...especially Trump, in the Oval Office, the US media might once again start to practice the critical journalistic curiosity with respect to Executive office activity that they abandoned for the last 8 years.
