How to sell my car?

Featured Replies

I have a volvo 850 registered at BKK but I live in Hua Hin. What is the safe and easy way to sell it?

I wanted to advertise at thaivisa.com classifieds but classifieds page are being rebuilt. What other websites do you recommend?

Thank you I will try those websites.

What is the procedure to transfer and get payment easy and safe? Do I need to have residence certificate? Car is registered in BKK but I live in Hua Hin.

Make sure if they ask for a test drive ,you go in the car with

them. try BhatSold, its free.

regards Worgeordie

Try word of mouth best way in Thailand. Get the word out and offer commission for bringing buyer. I sold my Nissan truck in less than a week that way.Drove it for 3 years sold it for 18,000 baht less than I paid for it. No commission either guy came to me.

Sorry I am not that experienced...I only sold one truck to a Thai person & he was using Bank Of Ayudyha

So they handled everything & cut me a check.

If your dealing with an individual I would imagine walk in with them to DMV & get cash from them at time of transfer would be safest

Yes you do need a residence cert you either get from Immigration or if you want & don't mind paying a bit more you can also get it at some embassies

For instance US offers the service for $50

baht sold is great. i would pay the small fee for an upgrade to the add. i have sold several motorbikes and a few pickups on that site. 2 houses as well. my friend has stated frangmart as well. could try that.

tiy facebook pages - buy sell trade type of pages, they have it for hua hin, pattaya, bangkok etc a lot more exposure

Yes, you will need a residence cert. Doesn't matter where you live or where car is registered.

I also want to know if a car with Chonburi plates can be sold in Chiang Mai without any problems ?  Or will the buyer be asked to change the plates before transfer?

Two stages: Advertising, Interest & Transfer

Advertising:

1) Don't limit yourself to English Speaking Websites and Classifieds - by doing so you are significantly reducing your target audience.

2) List your Car in the local Car Magazines (go to a local 7-11 or news stand, they will have examples), you will need the help of a Thai speaker / writer.

3) List your car on sites such as TaladRod / ThaiVisa.com (when its working) / Baht&Sold.com / one2car.com and as many online car sites as you can find.

4) Leave a Sign in your car (with number) so people can call if they see the car while you drive around.

5) Facebook - Your own page, but there are also dedicated Sales Pages.

6) Word of Mouth (which is very hit and miss).

Its all about getting as much exposure as possible.

Interest:

1) Once you have secured protective buyer they will want to look at the car.

2) Meet in a mutually secure place (not your home) - Car park etc

3) Ensure your vehicle is insured for other drivers

4) Test Drives - Always accompany the interested party on a Test drive (never let them take the car alone)

5) Some drivers may suggest that they take the car to a garage - This is OK - you could even offer to cover the costs of any necessary repairs to secure a sale.

6) Once you have secured a buyer and they will / should confirm interest with a deposit (10% is ok)

7) The Deposit can either be in Cash or by Bank Transfer.

Transfer:

1) The most common form of Transfer is the Cashiers Cheque.

2) You will require an Affirmation of Residence.

3) Obtain a Photo of the Cashiers Cheque, phone up and confirm its validity with the Bank.

4) Together - Pay the Cashiers Cheque into your Bank on the way to the DLT.

5) Show your ID and Affirmation of Residence certification.

6) Buyer also needs to have ID and Affirmation of Residence certification.

7) The Transfer of the Vehicle should be possible and any DLT.

8) Road Tax needs to be paid up for that year. There will be a transfer Tax.

9) The Buyer may wish to re-register his vehicle locally, but this isn't really necessary.

You live in HH but the  car registered in BKK.  The transfer will need to be done in BKK or re-registered (new number plate) at the Prachuab Khirikhan office.

Did it a couple of months ago.

You are wrong if the car is registered in BKK with BKK plates you have to have the name change done in BKK office the car was registered to sell else where procedure is

You have to register the car in the province you are going to sell it  in your xase HH which will entail a numberplate change before the new owner can be put in the book. The numberplate/registration in new district takes a week. Then you go to DLO in HH with old nuber plates get the new ones and do the name change all at same time.

Passport photocopies as usual.

Cert of Res

And necessary forms.

There is usualy a very helpful front desk in district  offices who will explain all.

Try

hua hin buy/sell/rent/swap group on facebook

kaidee.com

taladrod.com

My understanding is that if you do name change at Hua Hin you don't need to go to BKK. You can do it all at your district. Is that right? You just give the old plates and get new plates after a week. Can you describe it in details and cost as well? Thank you

Costs I can't remember but not a great deal how it works go down to local office tell them you want to register veh there and do a name change. They will tell you exactly how it works and what documents you need to do all this. It may well be diffrent in diffrent district if amphur and immigration is anything to go by. The office will tell you exactly.

But basically hand in forms for district/numberplate change. Pay money wait a week go back take your number plates into office. Get a number change plates then change names this could be at another counter or they may do it together depending on office. There is usualy a few ladies around at desks to guide you.

So they do it in your district if you don't mind waiting for a week. Thank you. I need to get a residence certificate first and wait for a buyer.

Last November I was living in Pattaya and selling a Rayong registered car to a farang living in Pattaya and had to go to Rayong to change the name. The process took a couple of hours with no problems, no change of plates required. No residence letter required from me, only from buyer.

This past week I bought a Rayong registered car from a lady living in Nonthaburi, with me still living in Pattaya.

First she had to go to Rayong to get permission to change the plate to Chonburi and then we had to go to Chonburi main transport dept. to change plates and change name. New plates issued on the spot but blue book takes 4 days. Old plates were not removed.

Transport dept. told us that a farang now can only have a car registration in the province they are resident in.

I'd wait for a buyer as res cert only valid for a month I belive. Why not make it easier and go and do the plates now whilst waiting to sell then it's simple to cancel name and buyer does not have to wait a week.

Which is what is said name change in province car is registered in. To change plates to new province simply go to the new province they will do the leg work you don't need to go to registered province to ask permission.

If you have the Correct paperwork find the districts main place that presses the new plates,go midweek early,Make sure the old ones can come off easy and you can get your new plates I about1/2 hours.Someone comes with you to get your old ones and that's it

Suphan, Chonburi,  Krabi and Phitsanulok are where ive found it so, never done one in BKK Area though..:post-4641-1156694005:

That's unusual they normally  make a big thing about having to turn in the old number plates at the desk before they will give out new  plates.

There was no need for her to go to Rayong first  could have all been done in Chonburi
