It would appear that the Government hasn't a clue how to deal with the Irish border issue in any confident way other than to attempt to supposedly use it as a bargaining chip for a trade deal. The UK government has said it doesn't want a hard border, but throw that in with the vaunted claim that Brexit was about the UK controlling its border with the EU and the whole project turns to mush. No wonder the forum Hard Brexiteers don't even go near the negotiations. The real world is too much for them. Crash out much simpler.

What excellent insight!

Finally. An admission that leaving the EU gives you a reasonable degree of contentment

As I say, the way this is going is reasonably OK for everyone. The new deal must be approximately the same as the old but with fewer benefits and a large price!

Can I have my old pounds back now please  ?

No. The Brexiters took them. For what?

Precisely F all.

Watch for the facile justifications....

Not so fast Batman. Unfortunately even the Hard Brexiteers did not have an immediate solution to the Irish Question if a hard pullout had ended the negotiations. Northern Ireland is the albatross that will not go away. Let us assume that the last election had not happened and the DUP was not pulling any strings, even then there is still a mess. Bottom line? The UK is not a single island even though the Brexit project dreams that it is. Brexit dreams have the EU starting at Calais looking East. Sort of forgot that it is in the West.

Talking about being in a jam. I think we can leave Brexit now and resume our conversations in Feb when Remainers can set about second guessing and  adopting wrecking manoeuvres for the trade talks.

Perhaps between now and then we can put the EU( the altar at which Remainers pray) under the microscope. Its such a trouble free environment.

Bizarre. Brexiters routinely complain that Germany is planning somehow to force the EU to become a United States of Europe and in this article we see that the most popular political party in Germany is against it. Thanks for providing such strong evidence against this calumny.

Worth bearing in mind that Norway, as a useful example of what is possible, has a hard border between itself and Sweden despite being in the single market and Schengen area since it is not in the Customs Union allowing it to set its own tariffs and do trade deals.

And it contributes mightily to the EU for the privilege of being in the single market. Not much less on a per capita basis than the UK.

Yes and we are still making the same complaint and how successful has this party been. Germany hasn't had a Government since September. Juncker and Barnier have publicly stated they want more federalism. A good reason to get out if you ask me.

If ever we wanted it putting into a few words why the EU is an abomination, it's here, from the horse's mouth:

"He said Britain will have to respect all EU laws during the transition, as well as as respect its budgetary commitments and the bloc's judicial oversight."

https://www.rte.ie/news/2017/1208/925856-deal/

How on earth did Europe end up in this godawful mess in which a completely artificial and unnecessary tier of bureaucracy is dictating to sovereign countries? Ted Heath take a bow. I hope all that illicit fun was worth it.

he is using quite strong and optimistic language that Irish chieftain,

he just might be in for a surprise when things are going to be put in writing

and subjected to approval in EU's upper bodies

He came across as a breath of fresh air when he first came to prominence. But his smirky cockiness is going to bite him (or his successor) on the ar$e before these dealings are finished.

When you join a club you help to set the rules and then should be expected to abide by them! Unfortunately when we come crawling back and begging to be let back in, we will be in a far weaker position.
