Recommendations For High Pressure Jet Washer To Clean Driveway

Anyone bought/used one of these things:

^ That's just a random image I found, not a recommendation for Stihl.

My driveway is so dirty/oily, that it is slippery after rain. I just want to get back to the bare concrete.

Don't need the machine for cleaning the pick-up, but would be handy.

I dont have one here (not much point in a condo) but I used to have one in a big old country house in Europe. Very useful for cleaning all sorts of outside items: rendered walls, mossy roofs, balcony tiles, old paintwork, driveways, garden furniture, cement mixers, pool tiles and surrounds etc. Be careful not to set the pressure too high or use it too close up or it can damage things like car paintwork.

Here I would probably stick to a recognised brand name as the no-name Chinese crap rarely seems to last very long and of course you dont have any real shop warranty here. You might be lucky though and if you dont expect to use it very often then it may last for you.

I bought a Polo Warrior 102L from Lazada, about2400 baht.   It works fine for cleaning the concrete and the car.

I have an old Karcher K5. High pressure works great for cleaning concrete. On wood and cars it can work as a paint stripper. Actually you need it only once or 2 times a year so maybe you can rent one some where.

Yes, I had one years ago and had to be careful of keeping it away from the garden wall or it would strip the paint off. Worked great on the concrete driveway though.

Renting is a good idea, or I might just ask one of the locals to do the job for a couple of hundred baht.

Is renting even possible? getting a local to do anything to any standard is a big ask! can only imagine the mess they would make, the illusion that you can just pick up a local for a few hundred baht is just that in my experience.

I have a Karcher I bought some years back, paid for itself many times over, have a look around some where they will have a sale.

The last person to clean the driveway was a guy hired to paint the garden walls. His sprayer was so powerful it stripped off all the loose paint from the walls easily. I got him to clean the concrete for 200 baht after he'd stripped the walls. It was like he was painting a white stripe down the driveway. I'd love to know where all that black dirt comes from.

So once a year @ 200 baht vs. buy one for 3,000 baht (=15 years * 200 baht) and DIY.

I think I know which way I'm leaning... biggrin.gif

^ Agreed, IF I could find someone capable and with the Psi washer, nobody here in the mystic NE. :(

Down here in Phuket, we are a bit more Westernised smile.gif.

I did have a pressure washer a few years ago and took it to Lampang where the g/f's family loved it. Unfortunately, I left it there. My bad.

The black dirt is mold.

Maybe I'll investigate what chemicals are available for cleaning mould off driveways.

Post-investigation: Household chlorine bleach should do it.

I have been looking at these to clean some areas of oil but mostly bird crap and black residue from our tiled drive. I have checked online and can only see how many bars / pressure they are. I can get a 110 bar for 2,100THB.

Reading other threads I have noted the water flow is just as important.

How much water flow would be adequate or do all 110 bar models come with the same water flow?

Thank you for any feedback.

All models don't come with the same flow rate, a 110 bar model with a low flow rate would be cheaper than a model with a higher flow rate as the "pump" would need to be bigger to maintain the higher pressure How much water would be adequate? difficult to answer, but within reason more is better.

Good luck.

If you want to stop birds crapping on your tiles/drive, I found a solution. It sounds weird or silly but it works and the tiled area on the corner of my house's patio is now crap free.

Hopefully the link above works for you. If not, Google "Pest Control Sound Visual Tape". Wrap it around the places the birds like to perch, and they won't.

I see a major difference in high pressure sprayers sold and used in Thailand. The recognized brands which really do have warranty repair service centers, which offer "induction" motors in the sprayer are a better long term value. "Universal" motors in Karcher. Polo, Bosch, Stanley, Zinsano, or Hitachi pressure washers will most often be disappointing. I've seen success in Thailand with the Induction motor models of Bosch, Karcher and Zinsano.  In Buriram I've seen 6900 baht Zinsano Caspian sprayers a name brand power washer that will last for over 10 years. The Zinsano Blu VIP model has an induction motor, yet the skill set of the person operating might determine your satisfaction. Stihl sell fine chain saws in Buriram Thailand. I have not seen Stihl High pressure washers in Thailand.
