Dead in custody - drug dealer hanged himself in cell, say police

CHIANG MAI: -- Police in Chiang Mai have said that a suspect in a drug case was found hanged in his cell on Wednesday morning.

A policeman checking the cell at Doi Saket police station first thing in the morning found Manop Kanpasu, 49, dead. He was hanging from a noose fashioned from a long sleeved blue shirt, reports Daily News.

Police said that a check of CCTV showed that no one had entered the cell all night and the dead man had acted alone in killing himself.

Manop was arrested on Monday. He had fled from police during his arrest and his vehicle had overturned. He was found in possession of 10,000 Ya Ba that police said he intended to distribute.

Following the accident he was taken to hospital to treat his injuries then after he was incarcerated in the cells at the police station.

Doi Saket police said he was found dead at 6am on Wednesday.

Hah, take that, DSI

another dead in police or military custody....Who is going to be the next?

So why was there something in the cell to hang the shirt from ?

So why was there something in the cell to hang the shirt from ?

Isn't that like blaming the gun when someone gets shot? Blame the building when someone hangs themself?

Shouldn't have something in a cell that could be used for self harm, that would include anything used to hang.

....his supplier must be happy....

...although...like some said here.....never read about any follow up charges.....

...thus....seems like quite an extreme action ........considering.....

...hmmm...

Because there always has to be something and those intent on harming themselves can be very innovative.

Perhaps the authorities could employ you to design the future perfection of jail cells with no features or facilities, nothing in them at all, just four plain walls.

He did get a suspended sentence by the neck.

It makes me wonder what was happening / happened with the prisoner through the circa 30 hours of Tuesday and Tuesday night and from midnight on Tuesday evening through to 6am on Wednesday?

Studying a procedure manual no doubt.

True. Even shoe laces work quite well. Thing is you don't need to hang swinging around, you just Need enough forward pressure while sitting down to black out and then it's all over
