I have an Intel 520 (250GB) running Win 10 on my PC and it flies, really fast for a 5 year old drive.

Recently I lost an old Seagate Drive to old age so bought a new one, a Barracuda 2TB thing for about 3500 Baht, seemed OK.

Then I lost another drive, a Seagate 1 TB 7200 Sata drive that has worked for another 4 years or so.

On some recommendations I decided to splash out a bit on a new Western Digital BLACK Drive, which I was led to believe was a fast drive, but cost a bit of a premium.

My last drive I use for backing up movies etc. is a Seagate Expansion 1 TB USB 3.0 Drive, which, I thought would be pretty good for the money, (about 1800 Baht)

I did some speed tests on the drives and was a bit disappointed, the Seagate 1TB USB 3.0 is crap! really bad even compared to an old Sata 2 / 3.0GB/s drive I have which must be at least ten years old.

Anyone with a bit of "Nouse" regarding hard drive care to take a look at the performance and tell me if this is what you would tend to expect from these type of drives? (I am a bit concerned that the WD Black 2 TB Drive is a bit slower than the cheapo Seagate that cost less than half the price.

Any feedback is appreciated!

C:\ Is The Intel 520 SSd

E:\ in the shot is the Seagate Barracuda 2.0 TB

G:\ Is third in the line up and is the Seagate Barracuda - "Expansion Drive" 1 TB USB 3.0

E:\ (Duplicate drive letter - as I changed them to put them in some sort of order is the Western Digital Black 2 TB Drive that cost almost 5000 Baht!

Interesting information. How did you generate these reports. Would like to reproduce on my own system. Thanks....

You can download the software free from ATTOTECH.COM,

https://www.atto.com/

It is an interesting bit of software, you can configure it to bypass the HDD controllers, it is "supposed" to give you a real look at the HDD Speed????

Thanks....

You are more than welcome....I just don't know how accurate it is, but looking at the results, SATA 6.0 GB/s pale into insignificance compared to an old Intel SSD!

For me your OP is confusing...I "think" you are dealing with 3 drives but show 4 charts but talk one being a duplicate drive letter but the duplicate chart seems significantly different in speed.  Then looking again, I guess you are talking 4 different drives.   But for the Seagate Expansion drive, yea, around 100MB speed is all you are going to get with a USB connection.

Any SSD drive no matter how old will be faster than a spinning drive, the age doesn't matter for speed but it does for reliability.

Yes, there are 4 drives. The original measurement of the E: Drive was taken on Sunday before I plugged in my new WD Black drive (Which now takes up the E: Drive slot)

I just expected the new WD Black to blow the Seagate 2 TB drive out of the water and it didn't!

The Seagate and the WD (Blue?) 1TB both leave the new Black drive behind which was a bit of a surprise.

As for the 1TB USB drive, I really thought that it would be a lot faster than it is.

The difference between WD Black & WD Blue is more aimed at higher endurance and reliability rather than a speed increase.

What they said. Nonsense to compare SATA access with USB. Question is whether you really notice any difference in speeds in every day use. Is your time really that important? Anyway, you don't seem that serious about HDD speed, though may think you are. To get serious you gotta look in this direction:

Just talkin' HDD. These do make a noticeable difference. :)
