PM presides over the opening of “zero waste” learning centre in Chiang Rai

 

 

CHIANG RAI: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Monday presided over the opening of a “zero waste” learning centre in Ban Pong Srinakorn, Pa Daed district of Chiang Rai province during his one-day inspection trip of this northern province.

 

He said that the “Zero” waste learning centre is the prototype model of learning on how a rural village can manage its own garbage problem by means of recycling to turn the garbage into organic fertilizer or manure for cultivation purpose.

 

The project is just a small part of the government’s 20-year strategy to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in the Thai society and to enable the grassroot people to be able to stand on their own feet and to help them reduce production cost in accordance with the late King’s philosophy of sufficiency economy.

 

The prototype model in Pa Daed district, if further developed to be put to use for energy generation in addition to organic fertilizer production, can be applied to the other communities, said the prime minister.

What a heck of a good idea.  PM Prayut earns cred points from me on this one. 

I hope it means less burning.

"20-year strategy"

 

So if you are poor, you have to wait 20 years for your fortunes to change ?  China, Taiwan, Malaysia lifted millions out of poverty in about that time.  Don't see Thailand making those sorts of moves.  True, less or no burning is good, but the pace of development seems far too slow in places outside of Bangkok.  Its neighbors are moving much faster. 

the general could bring the mandatory charging of plastic bags to really do something good. no, not popular with the masses? ok forget it.

This should be started first on the islands I think
