Best "Winter" Resorts In Thailand

Featured Replies

Now that Winter is upon us and temperatures are "plunging" into the low twenties and high teens at nite (?) I'm looking for ideas on places in northern Thailand to enjoy the cooler temps. The provinces of Loei, Ubon, Nan, and Chiang Rai would be good, with scenic mountauin views and some walking trails nearby would be ideal. I'm looking for specific resorts...not places or national parks.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Some friends just got back from Petchabun and said it was great.  Can't help with resorts.  Might try TripAdvisor???

There are hundreds of resorts in Khao Kho district so it would depend on what you want to spend except most just cater for the weekend Thai crowd. Good mountain scenery, mist in the valleys on the right days but you need to come soon as the smoke haze will begin before long. And be careful of the mad drivers on the roads who cannot stay in there own lane.

That looks very nice VF!

In Chiang Mai there's a number of resorts off the Mae Sa Valley, the road between Mae Rim and Samoeng and it's heavily travelled this time of year by Bangkokians looking for exactly the same thing as you. There are resorts off both sides of that road and budgets to suit every taste. I suggest you google Mae Sa Valley resorts or check via Agoda or similar.

Another good choice is Cheng Dow, also in the middle of the mountains and loads of resorts of all sizes to be had, google as above.

Ban Rim Nam Riverside Resort in Nan. Really enjoyed the stay. Also good reviews on Trip Advisor and booking.com
