I would like to go from Bangkok to Hua Hin.  I checked online and the train takes 4 hours to get there.

Are there better alternatives?  If by van, where do I go to find the van to Hua Hin.  thanks.

I think the bus takes 3 hours. Try avoid vans, your squeezed in like sardines and there deadly

Southern (Sai Tai Mai) Bus Station. About three hours by bus, but then you also have to get to the bus station (as above). If you've never done it before, go by train. Might be slow but it's a bit more scenic and the train station in HH is walkable from hotels/town/beach. Cheapest train is about 50 baht. Trains go from the main Hualamphong St in Bkk. Vans (not recommended) used to go from Victory Monument but I think also now go from Tai Mai and Mochit.

Trains usually are slow and late. Some are late for many hours. My worst train ride from Hualamphong to Hua Hin was 7 (in words: seven) hours. Never again. If you like train rides, it's okay, but expect more hours than announced. Fasted trains are train no. 43 (Sprinter) and no. 35 (former international express). These two trains are (almost) never late. The ride is 3.5 and 4 hours respectively.

The big bus start at the Southern Bus Station (Sai Dai Mai). Bangkok Bus no. 511 takes you out there otherwise a taxi ride is less than 200 Baht. The big bus takes 3 to 4 hours (depending on the traffic) and does not stop on the way. But due to heavy competition from the vans it now departs only every two hours. Ticket is something around 160 Baht.

Vans also start from the Southern Bus Station. Ticket is 180 Baht. People like to choose vans as they mistakenly assume to be faster than the bus. But this ist NOT true. As they are all NGV powered they stop along the route for refuelling (in both ways). All passengers have to leave the van; waiting time is up to 30 minutes. Some vans stop at regional bus stops to pick up more passengers if they still have seats available. The guys usually are hell drivers giving a s.hit about their frightened passengers.

The most comfortable way is the airport bus. It starts from the suvarnabhumi airport (Level 1, Gate 8) and can easily be accessed via airport link from Phayathai (connect to BTS). Ticket is 269 Baht and travel time is 4 hours. The bus only stops for departing passengers in Cha Am. The busses are modern VIP-Busses. They come with a lot of foot space and reclining seats for 24 passengers. Passengers are not allwoed to eat on the bus.

Ive gone by car....during a holiday weekend...not recommended, I've gone by bus, comfortable and about 3 hrs, I've gone by van several times, uncomfortable not that much quicker than the bus and the drivers think there in a grand prix....do avoid....next time i will take the train.

Take a Van,A trip takes up to 2 hours and a half. Carries 11 seats. One Way to Hua Hin is 180 THB. Passengers get on the vehicle in front of Ratchawitee Hospital near the Victory Monument.

I would also take the bus from the airport, 24 pax, 1 + 2 across, they give you a bottle of water on departure, driver seems like he knows he doesn't need to drive like a a F1 driver, comfortable, plenty of leg  room, individual a/c outlets, good view from the window, no  problem with luggage, 1 bag included in fare. Vans often charge extra for bags, a/c not working, very cramped, often drive like maniacs, no comparison. I believe the vans no longer leave from Victory Monument. Which ever way you go, enjoy your trip.

Vans have terrible impact protection they will peel Right open and usually the engine ends up in the cabin. The reason it takes 2 hours is due to 140km /hour whenever possible

Where would I go to get the bus and if it is not near a bts or mrt station, how do I get there?

Most people walk, but some jog as well!

The Dusit Thani hotel run a daily service to and from Hua Hin. It leaves the Dusit Thani in Hua Hin at 11.15 am and arrives at the Dusit Thani in Bangkok around 1.30pm depending on the traffic.

It then leaves Bangkok at 3.00 pm and arrives back at the Dusit Thani in Hua Hin around 5.30pm.

They will pick you up from just about anywhere in Hua Hin and take you to their hotel where you board the van for the journey to Bangkok, and they will take you back to your home in Hua Hin on return.

You must make your own way to and from the Dusit in Bangkok though.

A new Mercedes Sprinter van is used, newspapers and water are supplied, and there is free wi fi on the van.

The van seats 12 in comfortable individual seats, all with seatbelts and the drivers drive very safely and do not race or otherwise act stupidly on the road. It is a professionally run operation and the cost is 620b each way.

After a couple of hair raising experiences on the 200b minibuses iI vowed never to use them again. The 4 hour train journey is a once or twice only experience. It's just too slow and I find the safety, convenience and comfort of the Dusit service well worth the cost.

The bus from BKK is good and much more comfortable than the train but depending where you are in Bangkok and where you want to be in Hua Hin, you will almost certainly have some extra fares both to BKK and from Hua Hin, the bus drives right through the centre of Hua Hin but will not stop. It is either a long hot walk from Hua Hin bus station or tuk tuk / motorcycle taxi.

Reading may helps: 2 Hours and a half from BKK to HH doesn't need Speed  excess.

With your thoughts you can also not use a bus or train, certainly not a plane.

I am living in HH and was driven many times with Van Service. You talk about old Times, Vans was stuffed with People and the Drivers had Lak of Experience. Sience 2 Years Speed transgressions and too many passengers on board are severely punished and the company and the driver lose the license. This is clearly noticeable
