CHIANG RAI:-- Cop killer and drug dealer Pornchai Srisawat was shot dead in a hail of bullets in the forests near the Burmese border in Mae Sai yesterday.

Pornchai, 39, had gunned down Chiang Rai policeman Noppaporn Yawirat outside a resort in the area on Thursday prompting a huge manhunt joined by border rangers and the military.

Pornchai was located in the Mae Jan area and after he refused to give himself up and started shooting the decision was taken to shoot to kill.

He was found riddled with bullets.

Earlier in the day Thai TV reported that the suspect's mobile phone had been found at an address nearby. They surmised it was planted there to put the officers hunting him off the scent.

Meanwhile a service was held for officer Noppaporn of the Mae Jan force before his body was sent for cremation in his hometown in Mae Saw, Chiang Rai. Another officer was shot in the stomach at the resort on Thursday after police learnt that Pornchai, wanted on a warrant for drugs offences, was staying there.

The other officer is recovering in hospital.

What a shame, now he's going to miss out on the EOY celebrations and the fire works,

but I guess he's got his very own fire works trusted upon him already... good ridden...

Police satisfaction. But well deserved.

Or unless your father is powerful and influential in politics, then you get to be a shooting instructor for the police.

Mafia in uniform with license to kill. That man is lucky he died otherwise he would be tortured and die a slow death. Next day floating in a canal.

There were less killings in the 70's when the product was heroin and readily available.

Man kills cop, all regional cops mobilized and charged to find him.  Understandable.

Approx 9,000 cars/hour go through red lights, just in Chiang Rai, for years, and not one person ever pursued or cited.   P.S. a vehicle charging through a red light is lethal.

You could make the same point about deaths from terrorism vs the road toll world wide while comparing the money spent to deter both.
