NONG KHAI: -- A record number of tourists flocked to Nong Khai's landmark tourist attraction - the Skywalk at Wat Pha Tak Seua - on Sunday.

Officials had to introduce a limit on the number of tourists on the glass bottomed viewing point, the first of its kind in Thailand. Only

25-30 tourists were allowed at any one time for safety reasons, they said.

Saturday saw 10,000 Thai and Laotian tourists enjoying the view and the cool weather but that was topped on Sunday as 12,000 visitors arrived.

The viewing platform was opened last April and has already been visited by 200,000 people. It is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm every day.

I'm no mathematician, but I can count more than 30 people on the platform in the photo, so guess bang goes the "safety" aspect.....wonder how long before we read about this tourist attraction collapsing? I sincerely hope not, but it would not be beyond the realms of possibility, given the temptation to squeeze as many people on as possible for income reasons, and letting safety slip down the list of priorities. :whistling:
