Hello,

The HDMI port on my laptop stopped working recently. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good place to fix it? I live in Bangkok.

Thanks

Most makes will have service centers at the major computer malls - that is the place for repairs.  Fortune Town is one such place.

We had very good experience with a place called Pro Corner, at Fortune Town. Guy speaks English, gives realistic time frames and repair options. Made a couple of suggestions for free solutions, when he could have charged.

Cable?

Peripheral?

Driver issue... installed any updates lately? Try disabling re-enabling the current driver through Device Man' while everything is plugged in.

If you can't afford to buy a new laptop, maybe it's time to face up to the fact that you really can't afford to live in Thailand. Trouble is, that means you almost certainly can't afford to live in your home country.

Why would he need to buy a new laptop because 1 port is not working? A bit over the top.

Often the HDMI port is used to connect to an external monitor. If you're working on a laptop for more than an hour, you'd know how hard it is to work long term on such a small screen. Probably his screen is already cracked or broken because he's a cheap charlie falang who's been using the same filthy old laptop for years. Therefore, he needs to connect it to an external monitor to see anything. That's the reason. Then again, I think you knew that already and are being facetious.

While your post is cynical to the max at first glance you might be right.

I've never used the HDML port on my laptop.

Many people use HDMI port to view movies on a larger screen that they have stored on a laptop or to perhaps turn a standard tv into a "smart" tv using the laptop link to watch various media sources from the internet.

Thanks for the explanation.
