Looking For Dermatologist "Skin Clinic"

Yes there is a dedicated dermatology clinic at the Bangkok Phuket Hospital (Beside BIG C on bypass rd). Ground floor beside the main reception. 2 Doctors both excellent, and prices not too deadly.

This would very greatly as to your needs.  For skin cancer there are very few with experience in Thailand but beauty issues on every corner.  But if any type of operation involved would recommend using hospital were emergency care would be available in the off chance of something going wrong.  As with most medical care the gold standards will normally be found in Bangkok (although for skin cancer a doctor in Pattaya is highly recommended)

Firstly, I think Stuarty is talking about Phuket International Hospital which is part of the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group.  Bangkok Phuket Hospital is part of the same group, but are situated in Phuket Town. They too have a Dermatology clinic.

Secondly, while no doubt well intentioned, there are always people on the forum who will try to denigrate medical services on Phuket and convince you that the only good treatment is to be found in the Capital City. This is not accurate. Phuket is a major Medical Tourism hub and people come from all over the planet for treatment at the top hospitals here.

Thirdly, there was a similar thread recently which may help. Here is the link:

Sorry but do not agree - the people being treated in Phuket are doing so because they are in Phuket.  It is not an international medical hub (all hubs are in Bangkok - we all know that).

Specialist and experienced doctors are much more likely to be found in Bangkok - but agree that does not rule out there being some excellent doctors in Phuket.   And in most cases the best doctor is the doctor you like and gets it right for you.

Sorry, but I disagree with you. While it may not be the "Hub",  Phuket has a thriving medical and dental  tourism industry. People want to recuperate on a beach, not in a smoggy city.

At times I feel as if I  practically live in the top hospital here, I have been treated by 9 different specialists in the last four years and still  see 4 of them regularly. They are as good as any in the country. One of my doctors spent 30 years in the US working in top medical centres there. Another was the top student right through her uni medical studies. (I do check these things, not just spout off).

The others are equally well credentialed.  I really don't understand how you could make a condescending statement like this with a straight face:

"Specialist and experienced doctors are much more likely to be found in Bangkok - but agree that does not rule out there being some excellent doctors in Phuket"

What's your  knowledge and experience with Phuket medical facilities that causes you to make these statements, and then advise people to travel elsewhere in the country to treat a skin condition?

I did not advise travel for skin condition and I clearly stated had no idea of what the condition was - just noted that Bangkok is the center for the medical profession in Thailand and always has been - and I base that on being treated here since the days of the US Army 5th Field Hospital being a leading facility on Sukhumvit Road (things have greatly improved since then thank goodness).  But I was not trying to be condescending in my comment as understand there will be good doctors there; but do not believe anywhere near the number as in Bangkok.

As for smog - Bangkok is flatland so not much of a smog center.

As a city of 6 million people of course there will be more doctors and hospitals in Bangkok. And no doubt some of the top doctors in the kingdom are based there.

I didn't denigrate Bangkok, I'm just confused as to why you think that medical facilities in Phuket, albeit fewer, couldn't match the "Gold Standard" found there.

As for smog, I haven't spent time in Bangkok for many years, but do remember walking a short distance from my hotel and then blackening a pristine hotel towel with the soot and grime wiped from my face.

That's the main reason I've only ever transited the place since then.

I suspect just from cost factor there will be newer and better test equipment available in Bangkok - at the cost of some equipment hospitals really need to have a lot of use for it to make ends meet.

Agree that black nose/face used to be true in the diesel days in the center of Bangkok areas - but remember Bangkok is a bit larger than most cities - air has become much better in last several decades with the switch to gas, even downtown..

So what you are really saying that you have absolutely no experience or idea what the medical facilities

or their standards are in Phuket but you think Bangkok is better anyway??

I like OC have been in the care of at least three specialists here in Phuket for more than 9 years and still

have regular 4 monthly check ups with 2 of them and have yet to experience better facilities or service

anywhere in the world, and i have been to more than a few places in this world.

For many a long year the most popular skin clinic is in Phuket Town. The only way I can describe it is if you travel Chao Fa East all the way to the end you come to traffic lights next to petrol station & turn right. Skin clinic is 100m or so on the left. Only open at night & usually a crowd.

Sorry, not correct. Many people come to Phuket from abroad for medical treatment of all kind.

I do not know which problem Osmar has, but for skin problems (cancer control and keratosis removal) I usally go to Phuket International Hospital, Doctor Sithiporn, and I am satisfied.

I think that at present Phuket International Hospital, in the new wing, is better equipped, from dermatology problems, that Bangkok Hospital, that I frequent for other kind of problems.

They belongs to the same company and I have the feeling that they are trying to dedicate especially the Phuket International to dermatology and plastic surgery.

Yes agree and I use him all the time as I am fair skinned and spent a few years in the Sahara desert as well as playing tennis under New Zealand's brutal sun.

He is very good and I ALWAYS request him.
