Ford Wildtrak GPS for Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi forum.

I bought my Wildtrak new in November 2015 and it came with Ford's Sync 2 infotainment system.

It DOES have GPS in that it will show GPS coordinates for the current location, but the issue was that they don't have a maps/direction system for Thailand. The rumours at the time were that this would be resolved later.

Im trying to find out, has it been resolved? If so, how do I go about getting it?

If it hasn't been resolved, what are the best 3rd party alternatives, and where can they be installed (I'm in Surin).

Ideally it would integrate into the existing console display with no visible wiring.

Ideally it would not be dependant on a mobile phone, although that may be a plan B if nothing more suitable is available.

I haven't found the local Ford dealer to be particularly useful for anything so far, perhaps a language barrier, but even when that is crossed, they don't seem to offer much if any after-service. For example on a recent trip to Buri Ram the steering felt a touch off. Spoke to the dealer about a wheel alignment check but he just said we have to find somewhere else for that.

How will I find Bangkok without a GPS?

Only joking, thanks for the heads up, appreciated.

Check you tire pressures.

B-Quick will check your wheel balancing. After almost 18 months, you may well be experiencing more than just standard tire and shock wear. Had any flats, tires been plugged and changed or clouted any potholes or kerbs?

If it still fells 'a touch off' after that, take it back to the dealership; they do have the technology but possibly that branch lacks the motivation and/or training. Unfortunately a common trait with Ford service nationwide. Go ahead and name them here so other owners may either advise or get a heads up.

Have you actually done this or just guessing. I would love to know how to update Sync2 from my phone ..it would give me Sync3?

Even the present Sync3 in Thailand Is not exactly GPS friendly

Was just taking the pi-- even Sync3 doesn't do what you want it to.

Now I have a problem with the Honda ... got a dongle to screen mirror maps from phone to screen .. but it drops out sometimes ... think a USB  power fault ... difficult to explain to honda as have bypassed the e-brake so the screen will work whilst driving else you can't display whilst driving.

And I don't like the honda gps either

GPS this, sync that, Jeez,  buy a decent map, learn some Thai script, so you know the names of cities/highways. Op sell that pile of poo poo and buy a decent Japanese truck.

I was told the 'Glympse' GPS app works with Ford Sync ???

Not tried it in a Ford yet, though. Sat in a new Wildtrak (Sync3) and it came up as compatible ?????

I guess that you live in the sticks ... try driving in and around Bangkok with a map on your knee ...

No I haven't. But I got curious and found detailed instructions on Ford website. It might solve the problem, it might not, but it's worth trying, don't you think?

Great idea  please post the link as I can't find that info

I connect my phone to my Ranger by USB a couple of months ago Sync 2 did a software update automatically.

I use Google maps on my phone as a GPS works well
